Germans Will Not Intervene In Soviet Affairs Berlin, Germany.—An appeal by Chief Rabbi Meier Hildesheimer, of this city, to the German foreign of fice, asking that the government in tervene with the Soviet government on behalf of the rabbis and teachers in Minsk, has been denied on the ground that newspaper reports about the contemplated executions are not reliable. Sir Israel Gollancz Retires From University London.—Sir Israel Gollancz, recog nized as the foremost Shakespearian scholar in the world, has retired from his post as professor of English Lit erature at London University on the occasion of his having reached the age of 66. Blum, Famous Scientist. Dies Strasbourg, France.—Professor Le on Blum, famous scientist, who won an international reputation for his re search work in the use of insulin for diabetes, died here at the age of 51. Report Jews Giving Menorahs To Soviets Moscow. Russia.— Reports appear ing in the Russian Jewish press state that in many towns where appeals are being issued for contributions to the industrialization funds hundreds of Jewish women are voluntarily giv ing up candelabra and other Jewish ceremonial objects, and even their wedding rings. These reports also state that the practice of blessing the candles on Friday night is being abandoned by the Jewish women. British Provide For Palestine Air dome London, England.—What is believed to be a result of the August disturb ances is the inclusion in the budget for British air needs of a sum for the maintenance of an airdrome in Pal estine and an army air service. Ganada To Advise Provinces Not To Raise Bars Against Non-Preferred Immigrants Ottawa. — The Dominion govern ment will advise the Canadian prov inces against any stiffening of re strictions against Britishers and peo ple from non-preferred countries to which the majority of Jewish immi grants belong, it was learned here to day in connection with the report that the Dominion department of im migration will henceforth leave to the provinces to make their own negotia tions, if they desire to have immi grants brought in. When the present agreement be tween the Dominion and the railway and steamship companies for bring ing in farm laborers expires, it will not be renewed as far as. the Dom inion government is concerned.
