• It is childish to inquire, as Jewish

. sn’t depend on your de-

seems to me that the question

id red per cent. Americanism. At
imes, when I mingle with Jews

most valuable possesison, I am
:o declare that the Jew will never
assimilate. And history seems to confirm
jew. But on the whole I believe
that assimilation is an organic process
i no force, not even the most Ortho
dox Jews, can halt indefinitely.
"It the Jews were all chips off one
block, like the Anglo-Saxons, for ex
ample. one might be able to gauge their
future more or less. But the Jewish type
—it there is such a thing—is so diverse,
so multiple, so non-typical that you can-
nut speak of the Jew collectively. Often
there is a greater gap between the Ger
man Jew and the Russian Jew, or between
the Yemenite Jew and the twentieth-cen
tury French Jew than between the men
tality of Professor Einstein and, let us
say. John S. Sumner of the Society for
the Suppression of Vice. So if you speak
isimilation you must specify to what
*'rt of Jew you are referring. A German
Jew can sometimes assimilate without the
fhtest effort while a Russian Jew will
have a hard time to get into the same
is the most Jewish German Jew.

Mrs. B. Travis; Parliamentarian, Mrs.
Sam Levy.
Mrs. J. J. Heilman and Mrs. I. M.
Weinstein will report on the results of
the Donor s Luncheon. This was one
of the most important undertakings of
the year and was made successful by
the untiring efforts of its chairmen
and committees. It was held May, the
fifteenth, at the Jewish Woman’s Club
in the form of a Boat Trip to Palestine.
The dining hall was artistically decor
ated to represent the salon of a boat.
A lovely program of music was enjoyed
during luncheon and movies of Pales
tine scenes were shown. These were
explained by Mrs. Louis Scheinman of
New York City who was the guest
speaker of the afternoon.
The cards for this month are written
with apoligies to K. C. B. and explain
concisely what will take place. They
read:
Before very long, next Wednesday in
fact, an event will take place, at the
Jewish Progressive Club, on June, the
eleventh, in the form of a meeting, of
our beloved Hadassah, with its annual
reports, and election of officers, and
Donor’s Luncheon reports, and all
year's summary, that no one can miss.
I thank you!
Shabuoth—The Feast of
Pentecost

received the Ten Commandments on
Mount Sinai, and it is surcharged with
significance and meaning to mankind at
large, as well as to the Jewish people.
Today, this festival is made more im
pressive by the Confirmation Service
which is held in all Reform Temples and
modern Synagogues. The solemn declara
tion of the young boys and girls to abide
by the principles of Judaism, coupled with
the reading of the Book of Ruth which
tells of Ruth’s recognition of the values
of Judaism, virtually becomes a renewal
of the historic episode enacted on Mount
Sinai thousands of years ago.
