more recently become a scenario
writer, having begun work on his first
film, “From Soup to Nuts.”
PROF. ALBERT A. MICHELSON
of the University of Chicago will con
duct the greatest experiment of his
long career in science when he goes to
Pasadena, Cal., in June to measure the
speed of light. It was Michelson’s light
measurements which provided Einstein
with the basis for his theory of rela
tivity.
CARL LAEMMLE, president of Uni
versal Pictures Corporation, will be the
subject of a biography to be written by
John Drinkwater. The author has been
invited by the moving picture magnate
to spend the summer at his 1 Beverly
Hills home where they will compile the
data gathered by Mr. Laemmle from
various sources concerning the facts
of his career.
DR. NELSON GLUECK, Instructor
of Bible and Hebrew Language at the
Hebrew Union College, left for a five
months stay in Palestine, where he
will join I)r. W. F. Albright, of Johns
Hopkins University, who is Director of
the expedition which will excavate at
Tel-beit-mirsim, in the southern border
of Palestine.
PROF. DAVID S. BLONDHEIM,
Professor of Romance Philology at
Johns Hopkins University, has been
awarded a fellowship by the American
Council of Learned Societies in order
to permit him to continue research
work on the second volume of his
studies on “French Comments on Ras-
chi’s Commentaries on the Talmud.”
YEHUDI MENUHIN, American
Jewish boy violinist, appearing on the
Paris concert stage for the third time,
won the biggest ovation ever accorded
him, with the audience cheering for
twenty minutes after the concert.
ADOLPH ZLJKOR, one of the most
distinguished offspring of Hungary and
president of the Paramount-Publix
Film Corporation of America, returned
to his native village of Riccse and was
hailed by the municipal council as “the
greatest citizen of our village.”
ADOLPH S. OCHS, publisher of the
New York Times, was praised for his
fine leadership when the first gold
medal for outstanding service to
journalism was awarded by the Uni
versity of Missouri School of Journal
ism to Arthur Hays Sulzberger, Vice-
President of the Times.
DR. ELTGENE KAHN, formerly of
the University of Munich, has arrived
in America to take up his duties as
Professor of Psychiatry and Mental
Hygiene at Yale University. He will be
head of all departments related to the
study of the mind.
HERBERT FLEISHHACKER is
one of three local citizens of San Fran
cisco who have contributed $500,000 to
aid the cancer researches of Dr. Walter
B. Coffey. The gift is assumed to be a
retort to Dr. Morris Fishbein, Editor
of the American Medical Association
Journal, who has criticized the cancer
work of Dr. Coffey.
CONGRESSMAN WM. L. SIRO-
VICH of New York, who is a doctor
by profession as well as a legislator,
has written a scenario in which George
Bancroft, the famous he-man of the
movies, will star.
