Institute Graduate Called
Rabbi Albert G. Baum, a graduate
of the Jewish Institute of Religion of
this year’s class, has been elected to
sir\e Temple Gemiluth Hasodim, Al
exandria, La. For the past two years
Rabbi Baum has been serving as Act
ing Rabbi of Temple Israel, Amster
dam, N. V. He was born in New York
City in 1903. Rabbi Baum was edu
cated at the College of the City of
New York, from which he received
the degree of Bachelor of Science in
1923, and did graduate work at Colum
bia' University. At the Jewish Insti
tute of Religion, he was awarded the
Philip \\ aldheim Prize in Social Serv
ice in 1927 and was the Free Syna
gogue Social Service Fellow in 1927-
1928. Rabbi Baum will take up his
duties in Alexandria on September 1st.

B’nai B'rith Holds Picnic
The B’nai B’rith annual picnic for
the children of the Hebrew Orphans
Home, which has been sponsored by
Gate City Lodge No. 144, was held
recently at Lakewood Park. The event
is looked forward to each year by the
children of the Home, and the program
arratiged far exceeded their expecta
tions. Swimming, boating, and a
chicken dinner were included on the
program, and the other amusements
were greatly enjoyed. The committees
in charge were: General Committee on

Civil Service Commission. He was
elected first in 1921 and thus has held
