New Year is almost here! The New Year’s Eve
Gala Night at the Atlanta Biltmore will be the
gayest affair of the season. Music directed by
George Berkey’s Biltmore Orchestra; croon

custom. And there will be some music,
too. Then there’s the dinner — the
best the Biltmore chefs can pro
duce. The carnival spirit will
prevail! Things start at ten

Berlin.—Fearing to arouse the anti-
Semitic Hitlerites to the point of at
tacking Jews, the Jewish congrega
tions of this city issued proclamations
urging the community to refrain from
carrying out the 1 ashlich ceremony
this year. Tashlich is the traditional
symbolic custom of casting one’s sins
into the water before the high holy
days. Despite these precautions a few
attacks were made on Jews during the
Rosh Hashanah holiday. I he attacks,
however, were isolated and not of a
serious nature.
London.—Colonize thousands of Jews
throughout the land and let them teach
Arabs how to cultivate the soil is the
advice contained in a letter to the Lon
don Times by Sir Flinders Petrie, fa
mous archeologist, who declares that
Jewish agriculturists have given an in
spiring example to Arabs, who have
been spurred on to greater efforts.
Between the two peoples, and with
Jews given sufficient opportunities,
Palestine can become a prosperous
country, he says.
Moscow.—The introduction of per
manent courses in “anti-religious
science” in all Jewish schools in Soviet
Russia is recommended by the Oktia-
bre, Jewish Communist organ in Minsk.
The suggestion is made in connection
with a review of the failure of the
anti-religious campaign on the eve of
the recent High Holidays.
The Oktiabre complains that it is
futile to expect any results from anti-
religious propaganda when it is called
into use only twice a year. The use of
anti-religious measures just before the
advent of the holidays is a boomerang,
the Oktiabre feels. The paper points
out that by conducting anti-religious
campaigns only on the eve of the holi
days the opposite effect is achieved
and the Jews are reminded of them by the
agitation against them.
Buenos Aires, Argentina.—According
to the report of the local Jewish im
migrant aid society 4,000 Jews have
entered the Argentine during the past
half year. All of these came from East
European countries.
Warsaw.— Half famished, and clad
only in underwear, the rabbi of the
Russian town of Anapolie was found
unconscious on the outskirts of the
Polish city of Ostrog. Anapolie is a
town far from the Russo-Polish border.
When he was revived he told a har
rowing story of his experiences in flee
ing officers of the Russian secret
police from whom he had escaped by
fleeing across the border.
\\ arsaw.— The continued existence
of the Warsaw Emigration Bureau is
made impossible, it was learned today,
because the Hebrew Sheltering and
Immigrant Aid Society (Hias) of New
^ ork has suddenly discontinued its
subsidy to the Bureau. The Warsaw
Emigration Bureau has for many years
been serving the interests of Jewish
emigrants.
Its suspension will mean that hun
dreds of Jewish workers who have
already emigrated to Western Europe
and South America will be exposed to
swindlers and forgers. The council of
Jewish Professional Unions of Poland
has decided to make a vigorous pro
test to Hias against its action.
The action of Hias is probably due
to the perilous financial condition in
which it finds itselt. World-wide
appeals have been made tc prevent this
internationally known organi sation from
curtailing its activities for lack of
funds.

for violating the Sabbath.
The sponsors of the game protested
that no tickets were sold, and no
vehicles were permitted to approach ■

Montreal.—The Quebec provincial
government recently passed an order •
council granting $300,000 to the local
Jewish hospital. The amount was,pr"i
iscd last year during the campaign
to raise funds for the first Jewish
hospital in Montreal which is to he
built soon.
Warsaw.—Indignation at the Brit
ish Palestine policy has expressed it
in a number of huge mass meeting
and in violent demonstrations in fr nt
of the British consulate here. The
Jewish shopkeepers of Poland are
being approached for the purpose
organizing a boycott on all British
goods imported into the country.
Berlin.—That the former Kaiser j
Wilhelm II is a generous contributor
to the campaign funds of Adolf He '
anti-Semitic leader, is the charge tna •
in the newspaper Acht Uhr Abendhla
which declares that Prince August
Wilhelm, the Kaiser’s third son. who •>
a member of the National Soci
party, has been acting as go-betwe
in providing the money. The charge
has been denied, however, by a lea^: ,
member of the Fascist group. . 1

has issued a statement to the et e
