IF I WERE A JEW

happy nations of the modern world. But
if it is to be one more great adventure
after the ideal of human brotherhood, if
it is to be one more endeavor to establish
justice and peace upon the earth, “with
malice toward none, with charity for all,”
then would I life up my hands and heart
in glad acclaim. It is because I believe
that Zionism is not one more selfish
nationalistic undertaking, but a sort of
final chapter in the great story of human
brotherhood, that, even as a Gentile, I
pray and labor for its triumph.
Such is my answer to the question as
to what I would do if I were a Jew. I
wonder how I can summarize the various
points which I have tried to make this
morning! Can I not put it in some such
way as this:
If I were a Jew, I would seek to be
myself—and to realize my higher self
through fellowship with all other men
upon the earth.
If I were a Jew, I would seek to live
my own life—and to unite this life with
the life of humanity at large.
If I were a Jew, I would seek to
achieve my own racial and religious goals
—and to make these goals the fulfillment
of the dream of a humanity redeemed and
a world set free.

Lodge No. 2, and by Rabbi I. J. Sarasohn
of Leavenworth
Among the resolutions adopted at the
afternoon session was one protesting
against the British White Paper on
Palestine. Arthur M. Sickel, first vice-
president, was elected president of the

next year’s convention.

Johannesburg.—The purchase of 15,000
dunams of land in the Sharon Valley of
Palestine in the name of South African
Jewry became possible today when it was
announced that the Jewish National Fund
campaign here had raised an amount ex
ceeding that raised in last year’s drive.
The success of the drive is laid to the
tremendous enthusiasm of the various
Jewish communities despite the financial
depression and the effect of the White
Paper.
