To Our Young Judaeans
It is with a great feeling of apprecia
tion on behalf of Atlanta Jewry that
I send this message of greetings to
Young Judaea. There is nothing so
vital in Jewish life today as a healthy
and loyal Jewish youth. Witnessing
tlie efforts of the Young Judaea or
ganization to bring about such a youth,
the Jewish people of Atlanta must feel
a sense of pride and respect for such
an organization and for its ideals.
The ultimate purpose of Young
Judaea was never so necessary as it is
today. With Zionism presenting a dis
couraged face to the masses of Jewish
people all over the world and in our
own locality, it is the duty of Yoaing
Judaea to go forward, always striving
to Firing Zion closer to all Jews, youth
and old alike.—Rabbi T. Geffen.

Young Judaeans:
It is with expectant enthusiasm that I
extend hearty greetings to your organiza
tion in the sponsoring of this Young Ju
daean month. Not one month of the year
should be dedicated to Young Judaeans,
but every month of the year should be
consecrated to our Jewish youth. The
burden of perpetuating Judaism rests upon
our youth. Young Israel, make the year
your own. In very truth, it is yours. The
fate of Jewish life rests with you. You
are the reserve army of Israel. When
the front lines of Jewish leadership will
have fallen at their post of duty, your
lines must move forward to take their
places. You must fill up the breach in
the ranks.
Young friends, I bid you to realize
your imperative duty, to train yourselves
for your present as well as your future
work. Young Judaeans, become the torch-
bearers of Israel’s culture.
A friend,
Rabbi Harry H. Epstein.
Young Judaea and Its Groivth
Young Judaea is the junior organiza
tion of the Zionist movement, and is
made up of boys and girls between the
mes of eleven and twenty-one. It has
ad an active and varied history of
marly twenty years growth.
Before the organization of Young
Judaea, clubs were in existence in
various parts of the country. At a
nferenee held in June, 1909, these
"■attered clubs were united into a
''ional organization named Young
aea. a constitution was adopted and
dicers chosen. Later the Southern
erstate Young Judaea Association
' formed as a subsidiary of the na-
nal body.

enabling Young Judaea to achieve

Theodor Her si
Theodor Herl, the founder of political
Zionism, was born on May 2, 1800, and
died on July 3, 1 ‘>04. “His untimely death
at the age of 44 was brought on by the
heavy duties of leadership placed upon
his shoulders. His intense devotion to the
realization of Israel’s ancient hope has
remained a great stimulus to all who are
working for the restoration of Zion. The
anniversary of his death is therefore uni
versally observed by Jews, and in Vienna
where he lies buried large numbers of
Jews visit his grave on that day.” It was
through the untiring efforts of Theodor
Herzl that the first Zionist Congress was
called in 1897 in Basle, Switzerland. Dr.
Herzl spent the greater part of his
in furthering the cause of Zionism.
into the occasion with unstinted inter
est and enthusiasm.
An elaborate schedule of affairs has
been planned by the committee which
will be of interest to both young and
old. Attend these events and take an
active part in the programs which have
been outlined.
Let’s strive for the betterment of our
organization and make March a me
morable period in our history.
Sincerely,
Nathan Blass,
Chairman Atlanta Council.

Tres'dent's Message
Fellow Young Judaeans:
As chairman of the Atlanta Yoiimg
Judaean Council it is with great pleas
ure that I have announced March as
Atlanta’s Young Judaea month.
Heading Atlanta’s Young Judaea
month committee is Mr. Nathan

Young Judaea month will no doubt be
a great success.
March is also observed as Young
Judaea month in other southern cities
where there arc Young Judaea clubs,
and I sincerely hope that the three

Young Judaea in Atlanta
Atlanta Young Judaea has achieved
splendid progress during the past few
years. Today there are approximately
twenty clubs in this city with a total
membership of almost three hundred.
These clubs are divided into three
groups, junior, intermediate, and senior,
and are, in most cases under the guid
ance of an older person who is known
as the club leader. Meetings are usu
ally held twice a month at which time
literary as well as social programs are
given.
Supervising the work of these clubs
is the Atlanta Young Judaean council,
which is composed of leaders of the
individual groups and one or two repre
sentatives chosen from the club mem
bership. The council meets once a
month, plans city wide activities and
discusses problems arising within the
clubs. Officers of this controlling body
are Mr. Nathan Blass, president; Miss
Bessie Geffen, Vice-President; Miss
Rosalie Hirsch, Secretary; Mr. Nace
Cohen, Corresponding Secretary, and
Mr. Leon Berman, Treasurer.
• Atlanta Young Judaea is also affi
liated with the Southern Interstate As
sociation which is the parent organiza
tion in the South. This body has its
own officers and committees and holds
a young Judaean convention every
summer. Plans are already under way
