is no complete severance of relationship
between our organization and the chil
dren at the time of discharge.
In our efforts to secure the fullest pos
sible protection for our wards, we are
permitting many of them to remain in
school for a longer period than usual, and
thus incidentally doing our share toward
the reduction of unemployment.
There are some men whose lives are
devoted to a single piece of work and
they become proficient in it. Other men
have another life work to do, but give
so largely of their time, their talent and
ability to social service that one is
rather confused to know which is their
main objective and which their secondary
motivation. I am thinking of men like
Mr. Kriegshaber, Mr. Loewus, Mr. Haas,
who have given so unreservedly of their
time and whose interest in our wards
has always been paramount in their
minds. Life is worth living only when
we have made sacrifices. We are happy
not in proportion as we get things out
of life, but only in proportion as we put
worthwhile things into the lives of others.
My sincere and grateful appreciation for
their helpfulness and also for the con
tinued encouragement of the members of
the Board.
I should also like to pay tribute to Mrs.
Edgar Lieberman and Mrs. Bertha
Hirschberg, of the Hebrew Orphans’ Aid
for their interest in personally shopping
with our girls and helping them in the
selection of their clothing. Their devo
tion has been untiring and deserves our
thanks and appreciation.
