Clarion. Three hundred men and women
heard Rabbi Morris Lazaron, of Balti
more, at a banquet speak on “Surveying
the Jewish Scene in America.” Rabbi I I
Freund, of Greensboro, read a paper’on
the History of the Jews in North Caro
line,’ and had on exhibit an excellent
collection of Sunday school materials,
books, and handiwork.
The major achievement of the Associa
tion is support of the Sophie Einstein
Student Loan Fund, founded by the late
Mrs. Sol Weil in memory of her mother.
Five students are benefiting from the loan
fund this year. A prize of $25.00 offered
by Mrs. A. Oettinger, of Goldsboro, for
greatest contribution to Jewish commu
nity life went to the Asheville district for
increased Sunday School facilities, and
formation of Young Peoples' Leagues.

Mrs. Joe Miller, of Charlotte, has been
selected by the National Contest Head
quarters of California, as a member of
the I hird Annual All-America National
Contest Team. Ten members compose
the team and Mrs. Miller was selected
from thousands of contestants through
out the United States. Mrs. Miller holds
the record of champion contest prize win
ner of the two Carolinas. She has made
an enviable record in the contest field in
the past few years, winning magazine,
newspaper and radio contests all over the
country. Mrs. Miller is the aunt of Mr.
and Mrs. Max Feldman, of Atlanta.
The Charlotte Temple Sisterhood is
sponsoring a dance and cabaret which
will be held at the Hotel Charlotte ball
room on May 9th. The Sisterhood ex
tends an invitation to all visitors.

The Woman’s Club annual show was
held at the Jewish Alliance under the di
rection of Sims Guckenheimer. Chair
man of the affair was Mrs. Norman
Mirsky, with Mamie Gottlieb as co-
chairman. Mrs. Hattie Raskin v%as in
charge of the costumes; Mrs. Sam Horn-
stein and Mrs. M. Horovitz, program;
Mi ss Henrietta Blumenthal. properties;
Mrs. M. Su>$man. refreshments, and Mrs.
Raymond Rosen, publicity. Mrs. Fanny
Cooley Eisenberg and Miss Gertrude
Dinerman were musical directors.
As the last of an interesting and di
versified series of lectures given at the
Jewish Alliance the past season, Louis
Fischer, well-known lecturer and author,
was heard on the five-year plan in Rus
sia. Mr. Fischer gave ample evidence
that he ranks high as an authority on
Russian conditions. His recent work
“The Soviets in World Affairs” has
gained world-wide circulation.
Mickve Israel Council presented two
plays at the Alliance recently. The first,
“The Third Angle,” included in its cast:
H. Sol Clark, Eleanor Frank, and C laudia
Arkin. “Thrice Promised Bride’ was
composed of a cast of the following.
Michael Kohler, I. A. Solomons, Eliza
beth Levy, Adele Extrovitz, Fannie ( ast,
Jeanne Victor, William Kelly. Edwin Ras
kin, Philip Solomon, Sara Weil, Harriet
Ferst, and Janet Kassel.
One of the outstanding events in
American Reform Jewry is the Biennial
Council of the Union of American He
brew Congregations. This mammoth
meeting which brings together hundreds
of outstanding rabbis and laymen through
out the United States, will take place at
