(Continued from page 5) The spirit is not yet dead. Mendoza, the great prizefighter; Miz- ler, the amateur lightweight champion of England, who represented this country in.the Olympic Games; Kid Berg; Rainer, who captained Austria against England at Soccer; Fraulein Mayer, the champion woman fencer; Prenn, the tennis cham pion of the same country and a Wimble don star; Abrahams, the great English sprinter, and so on. From among the seventeen Jews who have won the Nobel Prize, one picks out Albert Einstein; Fritz Haber, who re deemed the human race from virtual starvation by fixing nitrogen from the air; and Paul Ehrlich, of medical fame. From among the philosophers, Baruch, Spinoza, Henri Bergson; Brandeis, the great international judge at The Hague; Disraeli, the Prime Minister of England; I.uzzatti, Prime Minister of Italy; Las- salle, who created Socialism; Karl Marx, the great social reformer; Lilianthal, who is reputed to have been the first man to fly, Freud, among so many great doctors to choose from. Then Heine, the poet; Sarah Bernhardt, the actress; Mendelssohn; Yehudi Menu hin, the violinist, who was born in Pales tine. These are a few of those who have contributed gloriously to the life of their countries. One could go on and on. The Jewish people, almost the smallest in the world, without country, without home, for the most part under terrible disadvantages, have contributed enor mously to the world in every field. On the spiritual plane they stand alone. What is to be done? Is the problem of the Jew insoluble? Is it his fate to be tormented forever? It has been said: "The land shall not be sold forever.” 1 oday the nations of the world have promised us Palestine, our Holy Land, a little strip of coast smaller than Wales. Let them help us back to it. Not for our bodies, for it can never contain but a fragment of the people; but give us somewhere to plant the Jew ish soul which has wandered so many weary centuries. For 2,000 years at the Passover Feast, the toast has been “Next Vear—Jerusalem 1” I he return of Israel is a spiritual, not a physical event. One day the tragic muddle of the human soul will become clear, the nations will penetrate to the hard, bitter realities of life that lead to the harmony of truth. That is the re demption of man and the redemption of Israel.
