How the Jewish Screen Stars of
Germany Are Being Exiled by
the Nazi Film Czarina —
k and What America A
m Is Doing! M
It is through the efforts of the alert
editorial department of the Sunday Mirror
Magazine, of A' ew York, that this resume
of the artists of the disrupted German
movie colony is presented and with the
kind permission of the Sunday Mirror
Magazine we present it to our readers.
1 r Hitler doesn t want the many and
excellent film stars who are of Jewish
blood—and he doesn’t—Hollywood
does! That’s the gist of a brief announce
ment, far-reaching in its artistic and com
mercial importance, that has just come
out of America’s motion picture metrop
olis, and has created as much stir in the
appropriate quarters overseas as Roose
velt’s “America First” message did at the
London conference.
Talent is talent, looks are looks, and
voices are voices—that’s Hollyw'ood’s
view. Since Hitler, the heaven-shaker, has
shaken some first-magnitude stars out of
Germany's film firmament, they’ll fall into
Hollywood’s lap and shine to America’s
advantage. Many excellent actors and
actresses whose Kuropean reputations and
followings are well established are due,
in no long time, to travel under contract
to the biggest cinema city of all and to
inaugurate something of a new deal in
Uncle Sam’s filmdom.
American audiences always welcome
new' talent if it’s good, and European
competition between American and for
eign-made films being what it is, Holly-
w’ood’s acquisition of these already well-
known European favorites may w’ell prove
to be a ten-strike in the exportation end
of the big American industry.
The launching of the Hollywood move
ment to aid the unfortunate German-
Jewish actors and actresses was begun by
Sam Goldwyn. (Please turn to page 38)
