President Roosevelt is held to be a dupe of Jewish bankers. I he Federal Reserve System, Pelley shouts, “is under the in direct but no less effective control of men like Eugene Meyer, James Warburg and other members of the international Jew ish money-bund. It was, in effect, for these gentlemen that President Roosevelt’s policies made it criminal for the aver age citizen to retain lawful money in his strong-box.” The NR A, Pelley says, is part of a Jewish conspiracy. According to “Liberation” the Jews are also the cause of President Roosevelt's popularity. In the June 24th issue this sheet says, "Why all this manufactured publicity and propaganda by Jewish Hollywood on the screen, by Jewish Baruch and Meyer and Warburg in finance, by Jewish Ochs and Winchell in journalism, to 'put Roose velt over big’ with the rank and file of the moronistic element who frequently mistake and applaud the wrong hero on the silver screen." Pelley has gone so far as to state that the “Jewish money- bund ' has put a dictator in the White House who is already so subservient to these predatory Jews that you can hear him openly designated on the streets of Washington as 'President Franklin 1). Rosenfeld.’ ” In another number the Sil ver Shirts’ mouthpiece declares that “if I* ranklin D. Roosevelt had not been acqui escent to German-Jewish alien money kings and their satraps abroad, he never would have gotten a smell of the New York governorship—where a Jew, Leh man, now sits enthroned in his place, just as the half Jew, Alfred Schmidt, popu larly known as Ai Smith, sat before him.” To “save” America from the Jews, Pelley proposes that “this nation must come to Christian democracy” which would mean “the incorporation of the United States of America into a colossal People’s corporation, in which all the citizens are common and preferred stock holders, with voting rights as facile and effective as in any corporation of the pres ent in commercial business, and where every citizen draws some sort of dividend according to his capabilities and indus try." In order to achieve this “Christian democracy” Pelley plans to “form quickly and rigorously in every state in this de bauched American Union, a new political party that shall be first of all a spiritual thing: a Native-Son, Protestant-Christian political machine that shall proceed to put men in office who cannot be bought or intimidated, and who shall have first of all the principles of Christ before them as the motif of their statecraft, ushering in a new day and a new deal for this despoiled American nation where subver sive foreign elements, from highest inter national banker to lowest long-haired fanatic, are kicked permanently and ade quately into the middle of the Atlantic, to stay kicked.” Apart from these nonsensical and big oted ravings, Pelley has revealed that his Silver Shirts are already organized in 46 states and boasts that before the year is out "you are going to see the Silver Shirts loom large in the events of the United States.” Thus far little or nothing has been heard or seen of them, but there is no question that Pelley is a potential danger. He has stated that he (ounts it an honor to be in the confidence of some of the highest Hitlerites in the United States and to know something of their forthcoming plans against predatory Jewry.” I'.ven more significant is a passage in "Liberation,” which declared that “it is the order of things that Hitler should be doing what he is doing. It is the or der of things that those wicked and malig nant spirits who have incarnated in cer tain sections of the Hebrew race trying to bring about the downfall of the Christ Peoples, should meet a fearful fate in this closing of the Cycle of Cosmic Event. I hat contest is on the make and Hitler's job it has been to do the advance work. But Hitler is not going to finish that work. I he finish of it comes right here in America.” Just how strong the Silver Shirts real ly are it is difficult to determine, although 8,000 copies of “Liberation" are being sent broadcast throughout the country. It may be that the Nazis in Germany will subsidize Pelley’s silver-shirted anti-Sem ites and seek to utilize this nativist movement to advance their propaganda in this country. It is possible, too, that Pelley’s boastful declaration of a link with the Nazis is just talk. But in any event American Jewish leaders would do well to take steps to prevent the Silver Shirts from achieving the strength the brown shirts achieved in Germany while German Jewry remained inactive and silent.
