U. S. Consul Lists Cases of 20
American Jews Attacked by Nazis
The list of 27 attacks on American
citizens by Nazi storm troopers since
March 3 made public here bv George S.
Messersmith, American consul general, in
connection with the investigation of these
assaults ordered by the United State*
State Department reveals that 20 of them
involved American Jews, including three
Jewish women. The complete list of
American Jews attacked by Nazis, a* an
nounced by the American consul general,
is as follows:
March 3. Leon Jaffe, attacked by
brown-shirted troopers in Berlin.
March 3. Henry H. Sattler, attacked
by fifteen Storm Troopers in Berlin.
March 4. Nathaniel S. Woolf, ap
proached by six Brown Shirts, who en
tered his Berlin apartment, drew re
volvers and struck him in the face, later
conducting him to a Nazi hang-out and
thence to tiruenewald Woods and order
ing him to leave Germany immediately.
March 7. Solomon Friedman, attacked
by three Storm Troopers.
March 7. Mrs. Max Schlussler, molest
ed in her Berlin home by Storm Troopers,
who, showing revolvers, compelled her
husband to sign documents while she
stood nude before them.
March 8. Louis Berman, attacked on a
Berlin street by four Brown Shirts, who
threatened him with pistols and stole $285
and some personal papers.
March 10. Herman L. Rosetnan, at
tacked in front of a department store,
struck in the face.
March 11, Mrs. Klauber, assaulted in
her home at Munich by Storm Trooper*.
March 12. Julian Fuh*, attacked in his
wife's restaurant in Berlin by a civilian
and several Storm Troopers, who knocked
him down.
March 13. Max Mayer Hausman, at
tacked by Storm Trooper* at Mannheim.
March 29. Julian Fuh* again attacked
by same civilian and Storm ITooper* in
a restaurant; knocked down, kicked,
threatened with revolver*. I"he consulate
was informed a Storm Trooper had been
discharged from the organization, while
Mr. Fuh's assailant, Oskar Joost, was
fined 50 marks.
April 1. Bernard S. Lustig taken to a
Storm Troopers’ hang-out in Berlin, de
tained, and subjected to indignities.
April 1. Louis S. Chase, molested and
struck by Storm Troopers in Berlin while
in company of hi* sister; later taken to a
Nazi hang-out.
April 3. Hirsch Roth, taken by Storm
Troopers from his apartment, threatened,
detained, and subjected to indignities.
April 3. Mrs. Lilly Steinlauf Blutinger,
molested in her residence; threatened.
April 19. Herbert Baer, arrested with
out cause at Karlsruhe, detained in cus
tody without being informed as to the
reason or permitted to communicate with
the consulate; finally released May 10 cm
representations of the Stuttgart Consu
late.
June 21. Dr. Joseph Schachno, severely
beaten and maltreated at Koepenick.
July 1. Walter Orloff. arrested at the
University of Greifswald for alleged
Communist activities on mere denuncia
tion and confession extorted through mal
treatment.
July 11. Samuel Danzig. university
student at Halle, attacked by a Storm
Trooper, while leaving a restaurant.
August 16. Philip Zuckerman, attacked
at Leipzig by a group of storm troopers,
knocked down, stamped upon and re
moved to a hospital in Berlin, where he
has been under constant medical treat
ment ever since.
