Mrs. Isaac Meddin, the newly elected president, presided and in her opening address stressed the present necessity of Palestine as a land of refuge and rehabil itation and as a homeland for the Jewish people. 'Phe new officers introduced by Mrs. Meddin were Mrs. Harry Zarem, first vice-president; Mrs. Julius Galen, sec ond vice-president; Mrs. Jerome Labo vitz, third vice-presi Jcnt; Mrs. Eugenia Garfunkel, treasurer; Mrs. Norman Mir- sky, financial treasurer; Mrs. Abe Rab- han, recording secretary; Mrs. Louis Sil verman, corresponding secretary. Mrs. Meddin announced the appoint ment of the following chairmen of'stand ing committees: Junior-senior advisory, Mrs. Morris Max; cultural, Mrs. Jerome Labovitz, co-chairman, Mrs. Isaac Leving- ton; sewing, Mrs. M. Sussman, Mrs. J. Of special interest was the reading of a letter from Mrs. Eugenia Garfunkel outlining the splendid program of Ha- dassah. Mrs. Labovitz announced that the Oneg Shahhat gatherings will he re sumed and will he held at the home of different members every second Satur day. The meeting closed with a paper on a timely subject by Mrs. Labovitz, as the cultural feature of the program. ▼ Mrs. George Winer, of Chattanooga, I cnn., prominent Hadassah representa tive, who has just returned from a tour of several months through Palestine, de livered an address on conditions in that country at a luncheon given in her honor by the Hadassah membership of Savan nah, Georgia, at the Hotel DeSoto. Mobile, Ala. 'Phe Tenth southern interstate confer ence of the Council of Jewish Women witnessed the election of Mrs. Julius Goldman, of New Orleans, to succeed the retiring president, Mrs. Harry M. Gcrshon, of Atlanta.
