SOUTHERN NOTES (Continued from page 18) Camden, adopted a plan whereby all Jewish children in the rural communities who are in need of them would be sup plied with Sabbath School books, and arrangements would be made for those Jewish children who live near enough to the larger centers, to attend Sabbath school regularly. Mrs. H. Barnett, of Sumter, was ap pointed chairman of Religious Schools, to take charge of this work, assisted by Mrs. M. S. Lurniansky, of Darlington, chairman of Sisterhood Extension. Mrs. Barnett has years of experience in Sis terhood work and is well qualified to de velop and carry on this most important phase of Sisterhood activities. Mrs. Barnett plans to visit every Sab bath School in the state and make it pos sible for every Jewish child in the state to register in a Sabbath School. She also plans to arrange programs that will as sist the Sabbath Schools in the observance of all Jewish Holy Days, festivals and holidays. And the establishment and maintenance of a library for all of the re ligious schools is another one of her ob jectives. Thu* making the advantages of both the Sabbath Schools and library available to every Jewish child in the state. The State Federation is to be com mended for the courage of its membership in undertaking such an ambitious and far sighted plan. It is a step in the right di rection and the members fully realize that the perpetuation of Judaism depends very largely on the inculcation of its principles and idealism into the hearts of the children. Montgomery, Ala. Mr. Phil Levy, prominent drug execu tive, of Montgomery, Alabama, has been recently appointed General Buyer for all I.ane Drug Stores. Mr. Levy’s ability has been widely recognized in the drug trade, having been connected with the Durr Drug Company, of Montgomery, for the past fourteen years in the capacity of Buyer. His present duties cover the buy ing for all Lane Stores in Atlanta, Au gusta, Griffin, Knoxville, Chattanooga and Jacksonville. Mr. Levy is a member of the B’nai B’rith Lodge in Montgomery. His wife and four children have moved to Atlanta, Ga., where headquarters of his new connection are located. Obituaries • Mrs. Sol Zion, 72, died recently at her residence at 339 Capitol Avenue, after a lengthy illness. Services were held at her residence with Rabbi Harry Epstein conducting, and interment was in Oak land cemetery. Mrs. Zion is survived by her husband; three sons, Max, Dave and Henry Cohen, of Atlanta, and two daugh ters, Mrs. M. Jenko, of Atlanta, and Mrs. L. Most, of Chicago. • Mr. Alexander Port passed away at his residence on Washington Terrace. He is survived by his wife and six daugh ters, Mrs. Mary Lichenstein, Mrs. E. L. Goldsmith, Mrs. L. Frankel, Mrs. H. E. Karlish, Mrs. E. M. Frisch and Miss Emma Port. • Mrs. Israel Kaminsky, 38, of La Grange, Ga., passed away recently in an Atlanta Hospital. Rabbi Harry Epstein officiated and interment was held in Greenwood cemetery. Mrs. Kaminsky is survived by her husband; two small children; four brothers, A. Solomon, S. Solomon, I. Solomon, all of Denver, Colo., and H. Solomon, of Atlanta; and two sis ters, Mrs. K. Freedman, Denver, Colo., and Mrs. L. Supperstein, Colorado Springs, Colo. (Plrtisr turn to page 22) G. D.
