the Support of Jewish Philanthropic So
cieties, with a plea "to reaffirm their loy
alty to Jewry in the face of bitter and
ruthless persecution.” Mr. Kahn also
said "this is the time indeed for every
one of us to heed the call of the blood
which courses in his veins and loyally
and proudly stand up and be counted
with his fellow Jews."
JAMES G. MacDONALD, League of
Nations High Commissioner for German
Refugees, is expected to make a visit to
Germany shortly in the name of the lead
ing European powers in order to ask the
Nazi government to call off its anti-
Jewish economic boycott and other re
strictions against Jews, according to a
statement made to the Polish press by
Dr. Nahun Goldinann.
THE Kl" KLUX KLAN made its re
appearance in Atlanta, Ga., when a group
of men garbed in the traditional white
hoods of the Klan entered Holsey Tem
ple, a negro church, during a meeting
called to raise funds for the defense of
the Scottsboro negroes. The Kluxers dis
tributed leaflets which in bold type said
"The Ku Klux Klan rides again" and
"Communism will not be tolerated."
PETEK SMIDOVICII, vice-president
of the Soviet Union, has invited German-
Jewish refugees to settle at Biro-Bidjan,
Far Fastern Republic where the Soviet
government is building an autonomous
Jewish republic. Lord Marley, vice-
president of the British House of Lords,
recently returned to London from a trip
to Biro Bidjan, where he had gone to
make plans for colonizing substantial
numbers of German Jews. Smidovich's
invitation is the first official statement by
the Soviet government on the refugee
problem.
CHIEF RABBI SHOR of Warsaw has
been elected as the representative of
Polish Jewry on the permanent govern
ing advisory board of the League of Na
tions High Commission for German Refu
gees.
HEINZ SPANKNOEBEL, the missing
Nazi chieftain of the United States for
whom the Federal Grand Jury has issued
a warrant, is in Berlin, according to as
sociates of Mrs, Maria Grebel, who was
questioned during the Grand Jury's in
vestigation into Spanknoehel's disappear
ance and who was his hostess.
VLADIMIR HOROWITZ, noted pi
anist, has linked his name with that of
another famous musician. Wanda Tos
canini, daughter of Arturo Toscanini,
world renowned orchestra leader, was re
cently married to Horowitz in Milan,
Italy.
RABBI ISRAEL GOLDSTEIN, spir
itual leader of Congregation B'nai Jcshu-
run, New York, has been elected the new
president of the Jewish National Fund
of America in succession to Nelson Rut-
tenberg. Other officers chosen were: Rev.
/. H. Masliansky, honorary president;
Louis Rimsky, treasurer; Rabbi I. M.
Kowalsky, associate treasurer, and Isaac
H. Rubin, secretary. The outgoing presi
dent reported that the Fund has raised
$407,803 in this country during the last
two years.
HENRY FORD'S book “The Interna
tional Jew," was advertised throughout
the world by Nazi publishing houses as
a suitable Christmas gift. The book is
advertised in a six-page leaflet issued by
the Harnmer-Verlag in Leipzig. The same
advertisement also lists a number of anti-
Semitic works by the late Theodor
Fritsch, a notorious anti Semite.
RAPHAEL GEORGES LEVY, one of
France's best known economists, authors
and orators and father-in-law of Paul
May, Belgian ambassador to the United
States, died in Paris, France, at the age
of 80. Levy was widely known as an au
thority on economics and history and was
the author of more than $0 world-famous
textbooks on those subjects. He was re
garded as a leading financial authority
