regret to learn that she is ill at Pied*
mont Hospital following severe injuries
sustained in a fall.

sacola, Fla., have been the guests of Mr.

• Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Strauss, Sr., and
daughter, Miss Claire Strauss have been
on a ten-day cruise to Bermuda.
• Mrs. Louis Wellhouse and her sis
ter, Mrs. Lillian Jacobs, motored to Tam
pa, Fla., where they have been the guests
of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Wellhouse, Jr.
• Mrs. Louis Elsas is in New Orleans,
La., where she is visiting Mr. and Mrs.
Victor Elsas.
• Mr. and Mrs. M. Stephen Schitfer
and Mrs. Benjamin Feld have taken pos
session of their apartment at 1327 Peach-
tree Street.
• Mrs. Eugene Oberdorfer, Sr., has re
turned from Florida where she spent the
winter months.
• Mrs. Percy Meyers, of Savannah, is a
guest at the Georgian Terrace Hotel.
• Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wolff and
daughter, Miss Alice Wolff, of Balti
more, Md., have been the guests of Mr.
and Mrs. Jake Hirsch on Lullwater Road.
• Dr. Max Cutler, of Chicago, is visiting
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Cutler.
• Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Baum, of Char
lotte, who have recently come to At
lanta for residence, are making their
home at the Cox-Carlton Hotel.
• Miss Edythe Epstein arrived from the
New York School of Interior Decoration
to spend the spring holidays with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Max Epstein.
• Mr. Joseph J. Fine was elected presi
dent of the Atlanta Alumni Association
of the Phi Epsilon fraternity. Other of
ficers include Mr. Jacob Haas, vice-pres
ident; Mr. Irving L. Samuels, secretary;
Mr. Harry Mendel, treasurer.
• The friends of Mrs. J. Bigler will he
pleased to learn that she is convalescing
from severe injuries received in an auto
bile accident in December, and is at the
home of her daughter, Mrs. Max Kuttner
in Rome, Ga.
JOSEPH ALTMAN, assemblyman from
Atlantic City since 1925, was elected
speaker of the New Jersey assembly
when it reorganized for its 1934 sessions.
Mr. Altman is the fourth Jew to he
named presiding officer of the New
Jersey assembly; the others were Edward
Schoen, of Newark; Morris E. Barison,
of Jersey City, and Joseph Greenberg, of
Hoboken.
BEN BRANFMAX, treasurer of the
kosher meat firm of Jacob Branfman &
Sons, of New \ ork, which was forced
out of business when it was found to be
selling non-kosher meat, was sentenced
to 30 days in prison after having been
found guilty of palming off treifah meat
for kosher. He was tried for violating
the state kosher food law.
FAY A. DESPOR FES, the new United
States minister to Bolivia, who has just
arrived in La Paz, is a cousin of Bernard
M. Baruch and a kinsman of Meer
Grossman, Zionist-Revisionist leader in
England, it was learned. Mr. Desportes.
