Elliott Haas. Jr., an Inglestde golfer,
won the annual spring Junior Chamber of
Commerce golf championship with a 7-6
victory over C. D. Gucrry recently on the
Bobby Jones Municipal course. Guerry
and Haas were co-medalists with Lee God
frey in the qualifying round.

One of the most brilliant scholastic
records in the history of Harvard Univer-
ity has been made by Daniel J. Boorstin,
19-year-old former Atlantian.
Summa cum laude honors in the de
partment of history and literature at
Harvard have been awarded to Boorstin.
This recognition, the highest obtainable,
has been awarded only to five members in
•he department in the last twenty years.
Boorstin also has been declared the
winner of the first undergraduate prize of
$500 for the Bowdoin dissertation in
I nglish. A few months ago he was
iwarded a Rhodes scholarship and now
Boorstin is sailing for France in order to
study their language until the opening of
Oxford University about October 1st, at
which time he will enter the English
school to begin the 3 year scholarship.
His intention is to take a general course
tor the first two years and the third year
will specialize in international law.
As a sophomore, the brilliant student
\\ n the John Harvard scholarship, as
ucll as the Barrett Wendell Award, the
highest award made in English and his
tory. He won the Coolidge debating prize,
led his class in scholastic standing, was a
member of the University debating team,
ind served on the editorial board of the
Harvard Crimson.
Harvard designated Boorstin to deliver
the Lincoln Day address in Boston. While
still a junior, he was elected to member
ship in Phi Beta Kappa, and served as
president of the Harvard Chapter.
Boorstin is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Vunucl A. Boorstin, formerly of Atlanta,
and the grandson of Mrs. Benjamin Boor-
stin of 404 Washington Street.

Macon, Georgia
I his city was the scene of the gathering
of members of Young Judea in observance
of the first annual Georgia Judeans' Day,
during which the host was the Macon
Young Judeans Association. At the She-
rah Israel Synagogue a cultural program
was held, featuring speeches by Dr. Sam
uel N. Rubin, of Macon, head of the Ma
con executive committee and a member of
the executive committee of Southern
Young Judea; and Sylvan Makover, pres
ident of the Atlanta Council of Southern
Young Judea.
Attending the celebration were visitors
from Atlanta, Savannah, Brunswick,
Thomasville and other Georgia cities, as
well as Birmingham, Ala., Chattanooga,
Tenn., and Charleston, S. C.

Dr. Joseph Rauch, of Louisville, will
preach the Conference Sermon at the
opening sessions of the International Con
ference of the World Union for Progres
sive Judaism to be held in London, July
6 th-10th.
"Judaism and Human Destiny is the
subject of this great Conference which is
bringing delegates from many countries
in central Europe and from the United
States to discuss the vital problems con
fronting Jewry.
Obituaries
• Dr. Sol Cronheim, former Atlanta resi
dent, passed away in Cincinnati, Ohio. He
is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Louis I.
Egelson, of Cincinnati; sister, Mrs. Sol
Benjamin, of Atlanta; brother, Herman
Cronheim, of Atlanta.
• Mr. Max Lonsberg passed away at his
residence. He is survived by his wife;
daughters, Miss Rose Lonsberg, of At
lanta, Mrs. Lee Wampold, of Greenville,
Miss., Mrs. Carrol Minis, of Savannah,
Ga.; a son, Ed. M. Lonsberg. of Atlanta.
The remains were taken to Albany, Ga.,
for interment.

away at her residence. She is survived by
