HEAR LUTHER MAY QUIT T n
AVOID DEMAND FOR RECALL
Washington (WNS)— Following
reports that the State Department
had called upon the Congressional
Committee Investigation Nazi Pro-
poganda to lay before the Depart
ment all evidence in its possession
as to Dr. Hans Luther’s Nazi pro
pagandist activities, it was rumoi -
ed that Dr. Luther might resign
of his own free will in order to
avoid the stigma of having the
United States Government demand
his recall. High State Department
officials, even those who have all
along been friendly to the Nazi
regime, are now convinced that
the State Department can no long

Arrest Of Jews Stirs
Anti-Alien Agitation
8an Jose, Costa Rica (WNS) —
The arrest of Jacob Goldenberg,
a naturalized Costa Rican citizen
of Polish-Jewish extraction,*on the
alleged charge of Communism in
Lima, Peru, has precipitated a na
tion-wide agitation against “Poles”
and aliens in this Central Ameri
can republic. Goldenberg, who be
came a Costa Rican citizen after
two years residence here, went to
Peru in the course of his business
as a peddler. His arrest there as
a “red” caused Costa Rica to res
cind his citizenship, resulted in the
enactment of a law requiring five
years’ residence for citizenship and
incited ill-feeling against foreign
ers, many of whom are Jews. An
organization calling itself the As
sociation Against Alien Immigration
has warned the government that
if it did not/act against the aliens
the Association would take the law
into its own hands.
Financial Deal Enables
Palestine Fruit Growers
To Export To Germany
London (WNS)—A complicated
financial arrangement which will
enable Palestine orange growers to
export $3,000,000 worth of fruit to
Germany during the next year has
been worked out by the Anglo-
Palestine Bunk of London and Tel
Aviv and the banking house of M.
M. Warburg «k Co., of Hamburg.
The scheme will make It possible
for German orange importers to
pay for Palestine oranges without
sending marks out of Germany.
According to the agreement, which
is understood to have the approval
of the Reich ministry of commerce.
German importers of Palestine
citrous fruits will pay for them by
turning the specified sum over to
a special account to be opened by
the Warburg bank. From this ac
count German exporters to the Far
East. India and Egypt will be paid
up to fifty percent of the value of
their exports. The counter value of
the marks in this account will be
paid by Far Eastern importers of
German goods to the Anglo-Pales-
tine Bank which in turn will credit
them to the accounts of Palestine’s
orange growers.
