League Rejects Demand
For Jewish State In
Palestine
The Creation of a Jewish State in
Palestine is Incompatible With
the Scope of the Mandate.
Geneva (WNS—Palcor Agency)—
The creation of a Jewish State in
Palestine is incompatible with the
scope of the Mandate for Palestine
issued to Great Britain by the
League of Nations, the Mandates
Commission of the League has ruled,
it was revealed here with the publi
cation of the minutes of the recent
meeting of the Commission. The de
cision of the Permanent Mandates
Commission was in reply to a pe
tition presented by the Zionist-Re
visionist Organization, headed by
Vladimir Jabotinsky, who had asked
the League of Nations to direct
Great Britain as the Mandatory
Power to enact such legislation in
Palestine as would lead to the early
establishment of the Jewish State.
The Zionist-Revisionists, acting
without the consent or approval of
the Executive of the Jewish Agency
for Palestine, which is officially re
cognized by the League as the su
preme Jewish representative body,
had demanded radical revision of
the Administration of Palestine and
change of many of the State Ordi
nances to comply with their inter
pretation of the Palestine Mandate.
The Executive of the Jewish Agency
had never itself applied for or de
sired a legal definition of the term,
Jewish National Home,” which is
the phrase used in the Mandate,
and which, the Revisionists de
clared, was equivalent to ‘‘Jewish
State.” This is the first time that
'he League of Nations has issued
any formal interpretation.
