Premier Etienne Flandin Told the
Chamber of Deputies During
Debate on Privations
Paris (WNS)—The wholesale
expulsion of alien workers from
France will not solve France’s un
employment problem, Premier
Etienne Flandin told the Cham

on the privations suffered by for
eigners who are being deported
as part of the anti-alien crusade.
The government is taking meas
ures to curb the number of alien
workers in France, the Premier
admitted, but added that it never
intended that thousands of them
should be ousted under such bru
tal circumstances. FJandin’s re
assuring statement came on the
heels of a report by the Senate
foreign affairs committee
That Jews do not control finance
and business, and that their inter
ests are a,s diverse as those of the
popuation# generally, and are not
largely in finance, are conclusions
drawn in a survey by K. C. Bel
mont, appearing in the current is
sue of The American Hebrew.
The survey is based on 80,000
names of directors in American
corporations, appearing in Poor’s
Register of Directors for 1934, by
the process of selecting Jewish
names, and the results obtained
are presented as an indication of
what is “likely to be the picture for
the country as a whole.”
Of the 80,000 names, according
to The American Hebrew, 3,285 or
4.7 per cent appear to be Jews, and
they hold collectively 9550 director
ships, or 2Vj each. The general
list of 80,000 holds about 210,000
directorships, or slightly over
