Chattanooga, Tenn. (WNS)—Be
cause of the refusal of the David
King Summers Post of the Ameri
can Legion to participate in a trib

ication ceremonies for a nine-foot
memorial to German soldiers and
bailors, who died while interned in
the United States during the Word
War, were cancelled here.
The German consul in St. Louis
cancelled the ceremonies after F.
T Herron, commander of the Le
gion Post, informed him that the
Legionaires would take part on
condition that the exercises did not
include any honors for the Nazi
re gi m e. The Legion’s action was en
dorsed by the Chickamauga and
John Ross chapters of the Daugh

Returning Jews
Sent To Camps
Berlin (WNS)—All refugee Ger
man Jews returning to the Reich
will be immediately placed in con
centration camps, the Nazi police
announced, thus confirming previ
ous reports that the returning ex
iles were being sentenced to con
centration camps. Officially they
are being imprisoned in order to
eliminate Jewish competition in the
labor market.
Jewish actors entertaining in
"catacombs” and “Tingeltangle,”
popular Berlin cabarets were tak
en to concentration camps after
Propaganda Minister Goebbels had
closed the cabarets and issued a
statement charging the Jews with
"ridiculing institutions of the Nazi
Party and State.” Goebbels declared
that the Third Reich could not al
low its institutions to be ridiculed
and criticized by Jewish or other
actors "to please an audience chief
ly composed of Jews and other ele
ments hostile to the new state.” He
also said that several of the Jewish
actors who had criticized an insti
tution of which they were “appar
ently not well informed, would
now be given an opportunity to im
prove their knowledge.”
This incident coincided with the
opening of Julius Streicher’s so-
called international anti-Semitic
congress in Nuremberg. The only

Decisions In Swiss
Protocols Trial Due
Berne (WNS)—The way was
cleared for a verdict in the suit
brought by the Swiss Federation
of Jewish Communities to have the
“Protocols of the Elders of Zion”
declared defamatory and a fraud
when C. Z. Loosli, non-Jewish au
thor and the court’s expert witness,
brought his testimony to a close
with an unequivocal assertion that
the Protocols are a brazen forgery
concocted by the Czarist secret po
lice for political reasons. Bitterly
attacking the “whole mentality of
anti-Semitism for which the Nazis
stand,” Loosli told the court that
the Nazi assertion that the Proto
cols were drafted at the first Zion
ist Congress at Basle in 1897 was
“ridiculous,” pointing out that they
had never appeared anywhere in
any version in Hebrew. Reiterating
that the Protocols were plagiarized
from Maurice Joly’s pamphlet “Dia
logues in Hell,” written in 1867, he
pointed out that the various edi
tions of the Protocols were all dif
ferent in text.
Mincing no words in blasting the
testimony of Col. Ulrich Fleisch-
hauer, the Nazi expert, Loosli
charged that the Protocols were
used by Hitler in his autobiography,
“Mein Kampf,” and flayed Fleisch-
hauer, Hitler and other anti-Semi
tes. He said that Fleishhauer’s tes
timony was “repugnant to demo
cratic peoples” and “there can be
no understanding between Fleisch-
hauer and myself, for he speaks the
language of Nordic racism and I
speak the language of Western Eu
ropean civilization. My study of
anti-Semitism has led me to the

return of Joseph Lampersberger,
German Jewish refugee who was
kidnaped by Nazis on .the Czech
frontier, is demanded in a formal
note of protest presented to the

Mastny, Czech minister to Germany.
The note declared that the kidnap
ing was a flagrant violation of
Czech territorial sovereignty, and

the kidnapers against a Czech cus
toms officer. Czechoslovakia also
insists on the punishment of the
German frontier guard who pro
tected the kidnapers.

London (WNS)—The loyalty of
the Jews of the British Empire to
King George V on the occasion of
the Jubilee of his reign was elo
quently expressed in a message pre
sented to the King by Neville Las-
ki, president of the Board of Depu
ties of British Jews, and Leonard
Montefiore, president of the Anglo-
Jewish Association. The text of the
message follows:
“To the King’s Most Excellent
Majesty. Most Gracious Sovereign,

Duel Over Student’s
Portrayal Of Hitler Is
Prevented at Lafayette
Easton, Penn. (WNS)—Only the
prompt intervention of college au
thorities prevented a duel between
G. E. Morris Allen, a senior in La
fayette College, who took the part
of Hitler in the college’s annual
dramatic revue, “Laughiettes of
1935,” and Gunter Kiersch, a Ger
man exchange fellow, who took of
fense at the manner in which Allen
portrayed Hitler. After seeing the
performance Kiersch called Allen
aside, asked him to remove his
glasses, and then slapped his face,
the traditional German student
manner of challenging to a duel. As
the challenged person, Allen had the
choice of weapons, but not being
adept in the use of either swords or
pistols, offered to meet Kiersch in
wrestling or boxing. Before the
match could be arranged the college
officials heard of the incident and
acted to prevent any further
trouble. Keirsch has since apologiz
ed to Allen, but subsequent per
formances of “Laughiettes of 1935”
were given without any changes.
Palestine Development
Co. Reports Large Profit
Jerusalem (WNS—Palcor Agen
cy)—The most successful year of
activity in its history, culminating
in a profit of L62.000 (about $310,-
000) for the year 1934, was re
ported at the annual meeting of the
Palestine Land Development Com
pany, which is largely owned by
the Jewish national institutions, in
cluding the Keren Hayesod and the
Keren Kayemeth. The profits will
be distributed at eight per cent to
the existing shares, with an addi
tional eight per cent in the form of
a new shares out of the new stock
issue. As most of the shareholders
are Zionist institutions, they will
receive the majority of the divi
dends. The annual report presented
to the meeting showed that during
1934 the P.L.D.C. had purchased
31,685 square metres in the cities,
especially in Jerusalem and Haifa.
These purchases were valued at
L257,000, but do not include the
Huleh area of 45,620 dunams, which
was bought by the P.L.D.C. and is
valued at L200,000.
Nazis Are Suspected In
Disapearance of Jewess
Copenhagen (WNS)—The myste
rious disappearance of Mrs. Ruth
Magyessi, Gorman Jewish refugee
and a prominent pianist and com
poser, who failed to return home
after visiting a friend, is arousing
fear here that she was kidnapped
by Nazi agents. Police who are in
vestigating have been unable to ob
tain a clue. Mrs. Magyessi’s hus
band, who is a Hungarian, said he
believed she was a victim of the
same Nazi gang that recently kid
napped German refugees in Switzer
land, Holland and Czechoslovakia.
Before the advent of the Nazi re
gime, Mrs. Magyessi was prominent
in the German Communist party.
30 Organizations
Join Hands in
Fund Campaign
Rabbi Epstein to Address Huge
Meeting
Hundreds of Atlantians and cit
izens of surrounding communities
besides the many delegates from
some 30 organizations, will attend
the Jewish National Fund mass
meeting to be held on Tuesday
evening, May 21st, at 8 o’clock, at
the Ahavath Achim Congregation
on Woodward Avenue and Wash
ington Street. The meeting, which
will be representative gathering of
both Orthodox and Reform denom
inations, will be open to all Jewry
and the main event of the occasion
will be Rabbi Harry H. Epstein’s
address before the large audience.
Other speakers on the program will
be Major Ralph I. Willner, Chair
man of the Atlanta Jewish National
Fund Committee, David S. Block,
Chief of the men’s division, Mrs.
Sam E. Levy, first vice-president
of the local drive. The other two
orthodox congregations will be
represented by their rabbis, Rahhi
Tobias Geffen of the Shearith Israel
Congregation and Rabbi Joseph
Cohen, of the Or V’Shalom Congre
gation.
The mass meeting, held on the
eve of the start of campaign to
raise $4,000 between May 21st and
June 9th, will take up the grave
crisis confronting world Jewry and
will lay the. final plan and pea be
fore the audience to put the drive
“over the top.” Throughout the
world the Jewish people have come
to realize that a neglect of the Jew
ish National Fund an historic op
portunity has been lost to redeem
more of the soil of the homeland
(Palestine). To meet the grave sit
uation, Jews all over the world are
engaged to enlarge the fund of the
fifty year old Keren Kayemeth
(Jewish Nat’l Fund) which is a
project of the Zionist Order of
America.
On outlining the plans and giv
ing the final instructions to some
14 Team Captains, who, with cam
paign workers from every organi
zation in Atlanta will comb the city
and contact every Jewish person to
contribute to the drive, David S.
Block pointed out that now as never
before the Jewish people look upon
the Jewish National Fund as the
sole agency which can provide the
means for the settlement of refu
gees in Palestine. “To strengthen
the Jewish National Fund is to
strengthen the very foundation up
on which our existence in Palestine
depends,” he stated. And further,
“With the cooperation of Atlanta's
congregations and volunteer work
ers this drive will be the most suc
cessful in Atlanta and all Atlanta
will proudly respond.”
