PELLEY PRESENTS SILVER SHIRT
The Southern Israelite
Friday, September 25, 1936
much of a Jew outfit. * uu uuvwi
wearing Silver Shirts now will take
its place. And then, until I get to
know which of the army and navy
officers I can trust, I'll put Silver
Shirts with military expience, like
Mr. here, at the head of my
country's forces."
Pelley glanced at his watch.

They don't put enough hours in
day for men like me. I have
speak in Tacoma tonight and
haven't begun to prepare my talk
yet. Say, Mr. , how'd you
like to come to Tacoma with me?
There’ll be plenty of room in the
car."
Pelley rose, and so did the two
gorillas who formed his bodyguard.
And as I left that office for the
last time my thoughts dwelt on
Pelley—the Chief, the Big Shot
the Man to Save America. Pelley
Jew-baiter par excellence, with a
mouth as filthy as his mind, who
leads the crackpots, idiots and fan
atics and lures them with tales of
cushy government jobs when he be
comes dictator.

Polish Jews to Palestine during the
next ten years, and it was pointed
out that if Poland was represented
on the Mandates Commission she
would be able to demand an in

and those remaining would be able

violence would bring discredit even
to the police department of a sec
ond-class American city. All in all,
there has been created a cleavage
between Arab and Jew, which will
take years to close. In the last an
alysis, the British government
must take the blame for the chaos
in the Holy Land.
“Our own Government, however,
cannot be held blameless until it
calls sharply to the attention of
Great Britain our feeling that the
mandate is not being administered
as it should be. No matter how
pressing may be the demands of a
Presidential election, time out must
be taken to have the atrocities in
Palestine stopped. We cannot shed
our own responsibility until we re
mind Great Britain of its neglected
duty and insist upon its perform
ance.”

Cromwell has admitted making
this speech, but he insisted he had
spoken jocularly and denied hav
ing any malice toward Jews or
Negroes. Claiming that the attack
against him is an aftermath of the
attempt to keep the United States
out of the Berlin Olympics, Crom
well said: “But what I said goes.”
It was Cromwell who was said to
be responsible for the failure of
Sam Stollcr and Marty Glickman,
only two Jewish members of the
American Olympic track team, to
be allowed to run in the 440-meter
relay.
