Opening Meeting of
Junior Hadassah Sunday
The Atlanta Unit of Junior Ha-
dassah will resume its activities
for the year with an opening fall
meeting to be held in the Civic
Room of Hotel Ansley on Sunday
afternoon, September 27th. Miss
Annette Geffen, president, will pre
side at the meeting which is to be
gin at 3 o’clock.
The meeting will be conducted in
a novel manner, according to ar
rangements by Miss Lena Sweet,
program chairman. An attendance
prize and refreshments will mark
the afternoon.
Committee chairman will outline
plans for the year, which include)
the annual bridge and fashion show
on October 28th, and an athletic
program, supervised by Miss Sarah
Bromberg, of skating, hiking, bowl
ing, volley ball and touch foot ball.
Officers for the year in addition
to Miss Geffen are Misses Lottie
Goncher, first vice-president; Lena
Sweet, second vice-president; Pau
line Hirsch, financial secretary;
Sarah Tontak, recording secretary;
Bessie Lee Rose, corresponding sec

lan, treasurer, and Rachel Shamos,
editor Alarm Clock.

‘Back to School” Dance
To Open A. Z. A. Season
The Second Annual “Back to
School” Dance and the celebration
of International A. Z. A. Day are
among the events announced by the
Atlanta Chapter of A. Z. A. on the
schedule for the new season.
An annual event, the “Back to
School” Dance will take place on
October 6th at the Shrine Mosque.
A prize waltz contest will feature
the evening. Rabbi Samuel Wru-
bel, of Asheville, N. C., will be the
main speaker at the chapter's ob
servance' of International A. Z. A.
Day on October 18th. The observ
ance will be in the form of an open
meeting.
A large gathering of alephs and
Ben B’riths were present at the
sixth anniversary celebration of the
Atlanta Chapter on Monday, Sep
tember 14th.
Shearith Israel Sessions
To Open With Exercises
Special exercises will mark the
opening of the regular sessions of
the Shearith Israel Sunday School,
Tushia Classes and Bible Class on
Sunday, September 27th. Isaac
Wengrow, donor of the Wengrow
cup for scholarship, will be princi
pal speaker of the occasion.
The faculty this year will consist
of the following: Misses Lena
Sweet, Lottie Goncner, Bertha Fish
er, Bessie Geffen, Rachel Shamos,
Annette Geffen, Eva Poliakoff and
Rachel Edelstein; Samuel Geffen,
assistant to Rabbi Tobias Geffen,
who will instruct the graduating
class; Dr. Melvin Weinman, and Ir
ving London.
The Tushai Bible Classes will
have as a faculty member Moses
Abelsky. Other instructors will be
announced later for the three year
course.
The course of study for the com
ing year will include Hebrew and
modern Palestinian music, handi
work, Jewish history, religion of
Israel, customs and traditions, holi
days and ceremonies, and Jewish
current events.
Alliance Announces
New Fall Schedule
Athletic, cultural and social ac
tivities head the fall program of
the Jewish Educational Alliance for
Junior and Intermediate girls, ac
cording to an announcement by Ed
ward M. Kahn, executive director.
A full course in all phases of
drama, including stagecraft, play
production and costume design, and
dance instruction at moderate rates,
will be offered this year. There will
also be art, and arts and crafts
courses, the latter including leather
work, bracelets, masks, Jewish cere
monial objects and marionettes.
Other activities on the fall sched
ule are athletics, social and educa
tional clubs, Brownie Packs, Scout
Troops, Nature Courses, a Glee
Club, discussion groups, and Jew
ish holidays programs. The library
will be open for reference, and
story hours.
All girls interested are requested
to register for the activities at the
Jewish Educational Alliance office.
