gives careful consideration to the
“current conflict between Commun

Endeks and other anti - Semitic

Meanwhile, the Endek press is
demanding that all Polish Jews who
have emigrated to Palestine be de
prived of their Polish citizenship in
order that they should not be able
to return to Poland.
Vienna (WNS)—Dr. Julius Tan
dler, one of the world’s leading au
thorities on hygienics and a form
er member of the Austrian cabinet,
is dead here at the age of 62. In
1922 he was appointed minister of
health in the Socialist government.
Under him Vienna established the
first marriage advice bureau, es
tablished free meals for school
children, free clinics and hospitals
and organized the famous system
of model housing. In 1930 he
launched a large scale drive against
cancer. Three years ago the Chi
nese Government invited him to ad
vise it on surgical problems. While
in China the Fascist revolution in
Austria occurred and he hurried
home. He was immediately arrested
but was released after the inter
vention of his friends abroad. Last
year he was called to the Soviet
Union to head the Russian Health
Institute.

sentially democratic in spirit and
expression and that the Jew can
not advocate or advance any social
system other than democracy.”
The text of the statement reads
partly as follows: “The current
conflict between Communism, Fas
cism and democracy is causing
grave concern in the field of reli
gion. Each religious group is now
compelled to decide which social
philosophy it can consistently sup
port and defend. The members of
the Central Conference of Ameri
can Rnbbis are convinced that Ju
daism is essentially democratic in
spirit and expression and that the
Jew cannot advocate or advance
any social system other than de
mocracy. We, therefore, urge the
Jewish people to carefully consider
this urgent and acute problem in
our social life in order that neither
the young nor the old may be at
tracted to alien altars.”
