End Disorders
General Strike Over As Arab
Rulers Terminate Cam
paign of Terror
Jerusalem (WNS-Palcor Agency)
__The Arab general strike and
campaign of terror, designed to
end th<* Jewish National Home pol
icy of the British government, end
ed on October 12th, bringing to a
close 25 weeks of the gravest dis
orders in the modem history of the
Holy Land. The close of the strike,
which brought in its wake death to
at least a thousand persons, injur
ies to many other thousands and
property damages running into
many millions, occurred on Lelat el
Maaraj, sacred Moslem festival
commemorating the night of Mo
hammed’s ascension in a dream
from Mecca via Jerusalem.
The strike was ended with the is
suance of a manifesto from the
Arab rulers of Saudi Arabia, Iraq,
Yemen and Transjordan, appealing
to the Arabs of Palestine to termi
nate their strike, and a simultan
eous statement in explanation by
the Arab Higher Committee, which
has sponsored the strike. With the
strike called off the threat of mar
tial law, hanging over Palestine for
many months, will be averted,
though 20,000 soldiers, headed by
Lieutenant - General John Greer
Dill, have been brought into the
country.
The tension which has gripped
the Holy Land for more than six
months as a result of the disorders
was visibly lessening as Arabs and
Jews began to fraternize both in
the cities and in the villages with
the official termination of the Arab
general strike. Typical, of the spirit
of comradeship which has again be
gun to circulate was an incident
that occurred when a Jewish-own-
ed bus from Beer-Tuvia, passing
the nearby Arab village of Kastina,
was greeted with applause by the
villagers, who held aloft a banner
inscribed “Shalom.”

—The Mufti of Jerusalem and his
associates in the Arab leadership
are condemned for ending the
strike in Communist leaflets, dis
tributed in Haifa, which urge the
Arabs not to disarm but to con
tinue their general strike and
campaign of terror against Great

A delegation of boatmen from
the Jaffa port came to Jerusalem
to interview High Commissioner
Wauchope and to request his as

Haifa. The Jaffa harbor, which was
not open during the entire period
of the six-month strike, is now suf

patronage.
Olympia, Wash. (WNS)—To Jess

elections, fell the task of accepting
the slate of candidates for the
State election filed by the Christian
Party, the militant anti-Semitic or

inated candidates for Congress,
governor, lieutenant-governor, State
secretary of state, State treasurer,
State auditor, land commissioner,
insurance commissioner and super
intendent of public instruction. The
vote polled by these anti-Semitic

Italian Jewry Alarmed by
Charges of <( Regime Fascista”
Rome—Recent political events at Geneva and the renewed
tension of Anglo-Italian relations in the East Mediterranean
region because of the dispatching of additional British troops
to Palestine have brought the Jewish problem into the fore
ground in Italy. While actual anti-Semitism does not exist in
Italy, and although official Italian government circles main
tain an unimpeachable attitude toward the Jews, certain
newspapers and periodicals do from time to time strike a vio
lently anti-Semitic note which makes for bad blood and may
eventually do serious harm.
“ _ The tense and complex political

Cl I T I While there has not been thus far
OllclKCS Lionaon an official or really organized anti-
Semitism in Italy, recent weeks
have seen a systematic anti-Jewish
campaign in the paper Regime
Fascista, a campaign which has at
tracted considerable attention and
has given rise to worries in Jewish
circles, accusing the Jews of inter
nationalist and anti-Fascist tenden
cies.
This is going a bit too far. Italy’s
violent aversion to Geneva and the
League is well-known and requires
no comment. But to view the co
incidence of the meeting-place of
the World Jewish Congress with
the site of the League as denoting
that world Jewry favors the Lea
gue and opposes Italy is an in
terpretation unsupported by the
facts.
Regime Fascista has also ex
pressed its suspicion of interna
tionalist and anti-Fascist inclina
tions among large sections of Ital
ian Jewry, including the most
prominent members of the Union
of Italian Jewish Communities. It
reproached Italian Jews with not

Blackshirts Attack Jewish
Quarter; Scores Injured
In Disorders
London (WNS)—London got its
first taste of anti-Semitic violence
on a scale commensurate with that
in Poland and Roumania when a
gang of Fascist blackshirts swoop
ed down on the Jewish quarter in
the East End and ran riot while all
available police were protecting a
parade of 5,000 anti-Fascists in an
other section of the city. Armed
with razors, sticks and stones, the
blackshirts smashed plate glass
windows, slashed pedestrians, over
turned displays of merchandises
and threw one Jewish merchant,
Sam Jalin, through the window of
a tailor shop. They set fire to two
automobiles and destroyed thou
sands of dollars worth of other
property. The Mile End Road area
was thro.wn into an uproar as the
Fascists raced through the neigh
borhood shouting “down with the
Jews! Hail Mosley.” At least a
dozen Jews suffered injuries that
required hospital treatment while
others were treated on the spot.
Emboldened by the assertion of
Home Minister Sir John Simon that
the government is legally powerless
to check Fascist agitation, Mosley’s
blackshirts have so intensified their
activities in the heavily-populated
Jewish sections of London’s East
End that the Jews of that area

REVEREND BIRKHEAD NAMES AGITATORS
To continue the list of Fascist
anti-Semitic groups in this coun
try: The Industrial Defense Asso
ciation, Inc. (136 Federal Street,
Boston, Mass.) Edward H. Hunter
is the lecturer and organizer of
this group and its activities extend
throughout,New England. Accord
ing to Mr. Hunter this society was
“organized to inculcate the piinci-
ples of Americanism in industrial,
religious, fraternal and educational
circles.”
The Rev. Herbert R. Whitlock,
pastor and evangelist, is the presi
dent of the group, and Ross H.
Currier, “active in military, naval
and insurance circles, is treas
urer. . .
This Association was originally
anti-Communist and anti-New Deal.
But it has enlarged its activities to
include anti-Semitism. In its oi-
fice in Boston I found a large sup-
ply of anti-Jewish literature I was
given a pamphlet entitled The
Grave Diggers of Russia which is
devoted wholly to “horrible c.r.ca-
tures of the alleged leaders of the
Soviet government, all of whom are
portrayed with exaggerated Jewish
features ” Handed to me also was
I pamphlet, “Special Report: The
Swan Song of Hate,” which is a
vicious attack on Rabbi Stephen

and Communist controlled orgam
zations. Practically all of the pro

country are included. Incidentally
Mr. Hunter thinks that Mrs. Dil-
ling’s “Red Network” is one of the
greatest books ever written and
one of the most important.
This Industrial Defense Associa
tion also distributes such pamph
lets as “Jewish Jazz” (which it
publishes), “The Man Behind the
Men Behind the President,” “Are
Jews God’s Chosen?” by Irving L.
Potter, and “Was Christ a Jew;"
(the answer, as you’ve guessed, is
“No”) also by Irving L. Potter.
While in the office I saw a great
stack of several thousand copies of
a pamphlet, “Zionism,” a copy of
which had been given me in the of
fice of “The League for Constitu
tional Government” (in New York).
I inquired about this pamphlet and
was informed that Mr. Hunter had
just imported the pamphlet from
London and was going to distribute
it throughout the country.
This pamphlet, “Zionism,’ is
printed by “The Militant Christian
Patriots, 93 Chancery Lane, Lon
don.” Its thesis is that Zionism is
the major part of the conspiracy
of World Jewry to set up a super
world - government, that Zionism
brought the United States into the
World War, that Justice Brandeis
wanted “to make the world safe
for Zionism” but Woodrow Wilson
insisted on substituting “democra
cy.” Zionists ordered the end of
the World War. In the Zionist
world state which will soon be set
up with Palestine as the head-
country private property will be
abolished, Gentiles will be subject
ed to slavery by the Jews and the
League of Nations (a Jewish in
strument) will impose a world reli
gion upon all of us—namely, The
osophy, we are informed by the
Militant Christian Patriots. But,
my friends, if only you had read
the “Pagan Talmud and Kabbalah,”
it would not be necessary for you
to read this pamphlet, “Zionism.”
Die inspiration of all of these Jew
ish Messianic schemes are record
ed in those ancient Jewish docu
ments. Many Americans, as well as
many Englishmen, will believe in
this booklet. Who was it that -wrote
that “man is a rational animal?”
Anyway Americans are going to be
seeing and hearing a great deal of
this pamphlet in the near future,
thanks to the Industrial Defense
Association of Boston, Mass.
Mrs. A. Tellian, who operates
from a candy store at 1308 First
Avenue, New York City, edits a
mimeographed newspaper, entitled
“American Bulletin: The White
Man’s Viewpoint,” and “Irish Out
post.” Both of them are viciously
anti-Semitic. Mrs. Tellian also acts
as the New York correspondent for
Julius Streicher’s “Der Stuermer.”

Move to Guard
Upper Silesians
Dr. Stephen Wise Announces
World Congress Plans
For Protection
New York (WNS)—Action by
the World Jewish Congress to pro
tect the status of Jews in Upper
Silesia upon the expiration of the
German-Polish convention next
July was announced by Dr. Stephen
S, Wise, chairman of the executive
committee of the World Congress,
at a meeting of the administrative
committee of the American Jewish
Congress. Dr. Wise said that the
co-operation of the League of Na
tions and competent political au
thorities in France, England, Italy
and Japan, which are the guaran
tors of the protection clauses in the
Upper Silesian convention, is being
sought with a view to securing
protection of all minority rights
before the expiration of the con
vention. The convention was the
instrument of protecting Jews liv
ing in Upper Silesia, a part of Ger
many, from the anti-Semitic legis
lation of the Nazi regime following
the submission of the Franz Bern-
heim petition to the League of Na
tions in 1933, as a result of which
Germany was compelled to uphold
the minority rights clauses of the
Polish-German convention.
The administrative committee
also formed a permanent commit
tee of 19 to deal with all matters
relating to the World Jewish Con
gress and to be comprised of the
American members of the executive
and administrative committees of
the World Jewish Congress.
Launching of an immediate pro
gram of organization throughout
he United States for the establish
ment of local units of the Congress
was also authorized.
