ATLANTA MASADA
The first meeting of the Atlanta
Masada, a new Zionist youth or
ganization, was held last Sunday
at the Jewish Educational Alliance.
In the absense of Rabbi Harry H.
Epstein, Charles Bergman spoke
to the assembly, stressing the need
for Masada in Atlanta.
Approximately 25 young men
attended the opening meeting of
Masada, which will serve as an
intermediate organization between
Young Judaea and the Zionist Dis
trict. , „
An election of Masada officers
will be held at the Jewish Educa
tional Alliance on Sunday at 4:00
P. M.
YOUNG CIRCLE
“The Dybbuk,” one of the great
est plays in Yiddish dramatic lit
erature, will be presented by the
Alanta Young Circle, it is an
nounced this week. The date for
the presentation of the folk play by
F. Ansky will be announced
shortly.
Professor Bloshtein, faculty head
of the Workmen’s Circle school,
will direct the drama. Try-outs
for parts, all to be spoken in the
playwright’s original Yiddish, will
be held this month.
“The Dybbuk” was recently
adapted in operatic form, and en
joyed a successful premiere in
Chicago with Rosa Raisa as the
star.
GATE CITY LODGE
The annual election of officers
of Gate City Lodge, No. 144, B’nai
B’rith, will be held on Tuesday
night, December 14, at the Stand
ard Club.
The election will follow a din
ner-meeting, which will begin at
6:30 o’clock.

will open the Jewish Educational
Alliance Basketball Tournament
on Sunday, December 12, at 2:45
P. M. Both teams are members of
the new girls’ league formed for
the first time.
The second game will feature
the A. B. C. vs. the S. P. C., and
the last game will find Z. I. P., a
newcomer to the junior league,
challenging S. O. Z. The latter
team finished last year’s season
by placing third in the city mid
get tournament.

The regular monthly meeting of
yje Shearith Israel Sisterhood will
he held in the vestry rooms of the
Synagogue on Monday, December
13, at 3:00 P. M., with Mrs. A. C.
Greenberg presiding. Mrs. M.
Horowitz, chairman of the card
party held earlier this month, will
give a detailed report of the out
come of the affair, adjudged the
most successful in the history of
the organization. An interesting
holiday program will be presented.
SERVICE GUILD
Plans were launched this week
by the Service Guild for the for
mation of a Nursery School at the
Jewish Educational Alliance. The
school, which is designed for Jew
ish children of pre-kindergarten
and pre-school age, will be opened
during the early spring, it is an
nounced.
Proceeds of the Benefit Dance
sponsored by the Service League
on Saturday evening, December 4,
will go toward the establishment
and maintenance of the school.
LITERARY SOCIETY
The regular weekly meeting of
the Nuham Sockolov Literary So
ciety will be held at the Synagogue,
359 Capitol Ave., on Sunday, De
cember 12, at 10:00 A. M.
F. Tnffel, president, will address
the society on “The Life of Moses
Maimonides (Rambam), the Great
Philosopher.” The public is cor
dially invited to attend.

Rabbi Tobias Geffen addressed
the regular monthly meeting of
Lenus Hatzedek Society, communi
ty group for the care of the sick, on
Wednesday, December 8th, at the
Shearith Israel Synagogue. The
subject of his address was “Bene
factors Who Ask No Thanks."
The meeting was combined with
the annual Hanukah Party of the
organization, and a large gather
ing of members and friends was
present. Refreshments were ser
ved during the afternoon.

Carolina Lodge
Spartanburg, S. C.—Hyman S.
Jacobs, of Atlanta, addressed a
meeting of the local lodge of B’nai
B’rith here, at which a recently-
granted charter was presented to
the organization. President of the
Fifth District of B’nai B’rith, Mr.
Jacobs appeared on the program
with Alvin Kartus, of Asheville.
Abe Smith is president of the
Spartanburg lodge, and other offi
cers are M. Malinov, vice-presi
dent; William Price, secretary, and
Mickie Williams, treasurer. New
members were initiated into the
order during the afternoon.

Final tribute to Hyman Clein,
35, of 456 Parkway Drive, N. E.,
who died Monday night, were held
Tuesday afternoon. December 7,
with Cantor Max Landman and P.
S. Clein officiating. Interment
was in Greenwood Cemetery.

ents, Mr. and Mrs. L. Z. Clein;
