New President of

Club
Herman Gross is the new pres
ident of the Progressive Club.
He was elected by unanimous
vote Monday night to succeed
Joseph Cuba.
Meyer L. Balser, former gov
ernor of J. P. C. athletics, was
named vice president. Samuel
Eplan was chosen secretary and
Dr. Nathan Blass, treasurer.
More than 500 members out of
total membership of 785 were pres
ent at the dinner meeting. The
Atlanta Post No. 122, Jewish War
Veterans, presented a United
States flag to the club before the
start of the meeting.
It is not just your good will, it is
your sacred duty to give to the
Welfare Fund May 6 to 16.

will take place at 3 p. m. Sunday, April 27, at the home of the bride’s
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Seligman, at 1302 Stillwood Drive,
N. E. Rabbi H. Epstein will conduct the nuptual ceremony. After
wards open house will bo held from 4 to 6 and all friends are
invited.

BODENHEIMER-B ARNETT
Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Bodenheimer announce the engagement of
their daughter Joan Rose to Lieutenant Irvin Barnett, son of J.
Barnett of Atlanta. The wedding will be next fall.
Lieutenant Barnett received his B. S. degree in Textile Engi
neering from the Georgia School of Technology, and since grad
uation has been connected with the State Engineering Experiment
Station at Tech. He has been recently called to active duty with
the Army and will be stationed in the Ordnance Training School at
Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland.

Brotherhood Meeting is Success
For the second time iu as many
years, Brotherhoods of Ahavath
Achim Synagogue and the Temple
united in a joint meeting with
what promises continued and in
creased understanding and appre
ciation between the two organi
zations.
Monday night, members of the
Temple Men’s Club, the Temple’s
brotherhood organization, were
guests of the A. A. Brotherhood at
the A. A. Educational Center. The
event was a return of the joint
meeting held the previous year
with the A. A. as guest of the
Men’s Club.
President Mendel Romm of the
A. A. Brotherhood introduced Rab
bi David Marx who made a fine
inspiration talk after which the
meeting was turned over to Pro
gram Chairman Jack Isenberg.
Sinclair Jacobs, Men’s Club pres
ident, made a well-received witty
speech and Oscar Strauss Jr. spoke
on the importance of Unity.
Cantor Schwartzman and the
Synagogue choir rendered several
liturgical selections, featured by
the outstanding singing of Arthur j
Bartell, 10-year-old son of Mr. and
Mrs. Oscar Bartell. Arthur’s so
prano voice delighted the audience
who showered praise on him for
his unusual talent.
The Synagogue Sisterhood stag
ed their beautiful tableau on “Con
tribution of Jewish Women to
Jewish Education.” The meeting

Memorial Fund for
Mrs. E. Zacliarias
A memorial fund will be estab
lished to the memory of Mrs. Eu
gene Zacharias, corresponding sec
retary and faithful worker in the
Atlanta Section, Council of Jew
ish Women.
The fund was voted at a recent
executive board meeting, when it
was pointed out that one of Mrs.
Zacharias’ chief interests was the
assimilation of the newcomer into
the community.
At present, the directors decid
ed, the fund will be used in some
way to promote the well being of
newcomers.
Mr. and Mrs. Clifford G. Mar
tin were visited over the week end
by their two brothers. Lester Mar
tin arrived by plane from New
York on his way to join his fam
ily in Miami. Herman Martin,
came from Miami and was flying
north to join the U. S. Army at
Yaphank, L. I.
Mrs. Jack Bierman, of Valdosta,
was a recent visitor of her mother,
Mrs. R. Minsk, and sister, Mrs.
Mannie Beerman.
Sylvan Meyer, son of Mr. and
Mrs. David Meyer, has been nam
ed managing editor of the Daily
Tar Heel, student newspaper at
the University of North Carolina,
where he is a junior. He is ma
joring in journalism.
Mrs. Morris Benard is convalesc
ing at her home in the Briarcliff
Hotel after a recent illness at
Emory Hospital.
For the greater need. Atlanta’s
Welfare Fund campaign goal is
greater—so donate more.
Mrs. Harold Marcus entertained
with a luncheon Tuesday in com
pliment to Mrs. Doretta Nussbnum
of Albany, N. Y.
Friends of Herbert Nussbaum of
Bainbridge, who is ill at Emory
Hospital, sincerely wish him a
speedy recovery.
Mrs. Edward David of the Briar-
cliff Hotel has visiting her. her
sister, Mrs. Helen Liebman of
Clarksville, Tenn.
Mrs. Albert Selig and her mother
Mrs. Jack Dolan of New Orleans
who was visiting her left to spend
a week in Cincinnati.
Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Marienthal
had as their guest for a few days

attend the Kentucky Derby and
from there to Excelsior Springs
