Your Welfare Fund
It is gratifying to note the
splendid record of collections to
date on 1942 pledges. It is an evi
dence of the serious attitude of
contributors toward their commit
ments to the Welfare Fund to
meet promptly the appropriations
to the agencies which need all the
support they can secure in this
tragic hour. Wednesday, August
5th was a banner day. All day long
contributors came to the office of
the Welfare Fund to pay their
pledges in person-

Mr. H. A. Alexander, President
of the Welfare Fund, announces
the appointment of Herman Hey-
man and Louis A. Montag as mem
bers of the Executive Committee
of the Southeastern Region of the
Council of Jewish Federations and
Welfare Funds. They will repre
sent the Fund in the Regional Ex
ecutive Committee. The Regional
office is in Montgomery, Ala.
where Mrs. Louis Kaufman serves
as Administrative Secretary. Mr.
J. I. Kingloff is the Field Repre
sentative. The National office is
in New York.

ter-city cooperation, the stimula- j
tion of lay interest and leadership,

To further the organization of
the Women’s Service Group a
meeting will be held soon of all
the colonels and heads of the Wo
men’s Division. A feature of this
meeting will be a clinic on the
past campaign which will discuss
the success and failure of the
campaign methods and procedures.!
It is hoped that out of a frank
discussion by the active leaders of
the Women's Division will come
valuable constructive suggestions
for the improvement of the Cam
paign.

The war is reaching out in the
ranks of the Welfare Fund leader
ship. In addition to R. H. Rich and
Herbert Elsas more recently Eu
gene Oberdorfer, a member of the
Executive Committee, joined the
Army as a Major in the Air Corps.
The latest recruit to join the arm
ed forces as a Lieutenant is Louis
C. Long, a member of the Budget
Committee and an active worker
| in past campaigns.

Edward M. Kahn who is com
pleting the fifteenth year as Exe
cutive Director of the Federation,
has recetntly received a signal
honor and recognition. He was one
of three elected to serve, for a
three year term, on the Executive
Committee of the National Confer
ence of Jewish Social Welfare.

Herman Hey man, as President
of the Atlanta Federation for Jew-
sh Social Service, announces the
appointment of A. L. Feldman and
Edward M. Kahn as members of
the Executive Committee of the
Southeastern Region of the Coun-
cil of Jewish Federations and Wel
fare Funds. They will represent
the Federation on the Regional
Executive Committee.

Do You Know That
1. The Montefiore Family Ser
vice Bureau of the Federation
helped, during June 1942 seventy
families and lone men and women
totaling 144 individuals? Of this
number 29 received material as
sistance. The rest received services
of one sort or another.
2. During June ten non-resi
dents or transients were given
meals, lodging, and other assis
tance? The summer is- the light
season for transients.
3. The Federation services and
activities receive their major fin
ancial support from the Atlanta
Community Fund to which Jews
and Non-Jews contribute? The
Federation joined the Community
Chest, as it was known then, when
it was first organized in 1924.
4. The Morris Hirsch Clinic re
ports that the largest attendance
during the past year has been
children? The Clinic maintains a
Children’s Dental Department.
During June this department ren
dered the following services: Five
dentists took care of 65 patients,
giving examinations and treat
ments to 19, fillings to 35, extrac
tions to 9, and dental hygiene by
a registered dental hygienist to 5.
The Council of Jewish Women
helps in the support of this ser
vice. One of the great needs in
Atlanta has been and is free den
tal service for children who cannot
afford private care.
