The Southern Israelite
[9]
One of the most pressing danger
problems for our country lies in the
insidious perversion of thoughts and
ideals . . . the kind of thoughts that
weakens the very foundations of
democratic life ... the type of thought
that fosters hate and intolerance.
We Americans must all be on guard
against this invisible invader, because
our greatness, strength and prosperity
depends on our unity, our freedom of
thought and our respect for all of our
fellow Americans.
My New Year's greetings to the
Jewish people, are given in the hope
that Americans will recognize this in
vasion of hate producing thought and
treat it with the disdain and con
tempt with which America has always
treated unworthy and destructive
forces.

airplanes, tanks, guns, bombs and warships —alone. Not
by food, clothing, automobiles, factories or any other mate
rial things.
In the last analysis, in the final test and reckoning, wars
are won by faith, courage, steadfastness, the willingness to
sacrifice, the unwavering belief in the rightness of our cause.
Having those we cannot be defeated by the pagan enemies
who seek to destroy us and to blot out goodness and kindness
and gentleness from the world.
