Culumbus Has “Social Commandos”
To Assist USO-JWB In War Work
The famed commando strategy
has not been kept for a surprise
party for Adolph Hitler alone, but
the women of the Service Guild,
Columbus, Ga. have been utilizing
this strategy on a grand scale in
their attack upon their daily war
work. You could almost call them
“social commandos” but for the
modest manner in which they are
attacking their day-to-day tasks.
The members of the Guild recog
nize the need for something to be
done plus that extra bit that will
more than help.” Besides their
normal community work in their
own clubs and synagogue, they
are handling specialized tasks
which call for extra planning and
resourcefulness, Any emergency
calling for a quick rally of woman
power has found the Service Guild
ready and willing.
Two weeks ago the news came
through that one of the men sta
tioned at Fort Benning was about
to be married and that his bride
would be down shortly. Knowing
that this would be one of the
proudest moments in Corp. Sch-
wimmer’s life, the Service Guild
arranged for a complete wedding
and reception with members of
the community present to attend
the bride. All that Corp. Schwim-
mer was asked by the Service
Guild was that he appear at the
wedding ceremony. Over 100 peo
ple came to the wedding feast.
