Unusual Talent
Offered Here On
Music Program
Music In Exile, the fifth at
traction of the Atlanta Cultural
Series, will be presented at the
Progressive Club, Wednesday,
Mar. 20, at 8:30 p. m.
Included in the program will
be Kurt Adler, conductor and
pianist, who came to this coun
try from Czechoslovakia in 1938
and is now an assistant con
ductor with the 11 .'tropolitan
Opera Company: Shulamit Sil-
ber, violinist, of Tel Aviv, Pales
tine, soloist with the Palestine
Symphony Orchestra; and Mas
cha Benya, colorature soprano,
of Lithuania, singer of Pales
tinian and Yidlsh Folk Songs.
The program is believed to be
one of the “most unusual ever
offered” here. Tickets may be
obtained at the door.

of the Jewish National Fund on
its recent activities reveals that
the organization has initiated
an improved method for increas
ing income which the JNF’ uses
to purchase and nationalize
land for colonization in Pales
tine.
Mrs. Max Butler, chairman of
the Farband committe of the
JNF, announced the organiza
tion is concentrating on the
publication of a golden book
and In the planning of festive
family affairs as media for rais
ing funds.
The past year was started with
a set quota ot $750 which was

Another fund of $45 was raised
for 30 trees during a gathering
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. N
Karlik when Lt. Joseph Karlik
returned.
At the golden wedding gather
ing for Mr. and Mrs. L A Merlin
$115. was raised. An additional
$100 was raised for inscribing
the couple's name in the golden
book and $15 for ten trees.
Proceeds from the recent con
cert also will be used for the
JNF.
Mrs. Butler announced that
much of the success fbr the af
fairs was made possible through
the co-operation of the co-chair
man, Mrs. A Cenker.

Elects Officers;
Frank Succeeds Baum
The Free Loan Association of
Atlanta has announced the elec
tion of officers for the ensuing
term. Joel Dorfan has been re
elected president for the twelfth
year.
Other officers re-elected in
clude Harris Bergman, first vice-
president: Mendel Cohen, sec
ond vice-president and Charles
Friedman, secretary. Jake Frank
has been elected treasurer to
succeed Morris Baum who is ill.
A report from the secretary
showed increased activity in the
organization, particularly as it
affects returning servicemm
who are being aided in estab-
i lishing themselves in business
again. President Dorfan said
I services rendered ex-GIs are
free.

The B. B. Jacob Sisterhood
held its annual banquet here re
cently. Mrs. Ben Bergrin and
Mrs. Nathan Marcus were chair
men of the affair. Mrs. Louis
Silverman presided.

Nozi Loot to Aid

among other things, a small
fund for rehabilitation and re
settlement of non-repatriable
victims of Nazi concentration
camps, supplementing the con
tributions made by the United
Nations, according to the terms
of the Paris Conference on Rep
arations made public by the
State Department.
The fund, which would be ad
ministered by the Intergovern
mental Committee on Refugees
or whatever United Nations
agency might take its place-
will consist “mainly of non
monetary gold found in Ger
many plus $25,000,000 to be de
rived from other sources.” The
non-monetary gold comprises
wedding rings, jewelry, tooth
fillings and other articles taken
from victims of Nazi persecu
tion and is estimated to be
worth $5,000,000.
