Mr. Friedman is the popular
athletic director of the Jewish
Educational Alliance. During his
brief assignment in Atlanta, he
has added much to the JFA ac
tivity program through new ideas
and his professional capacity of
inspiring young people. He is a
graduate of Springfield college.
Springfield, Mass., and spent four
years in the service.
Miss Shrifreen is a graduate of
i he Guggenheim School for Den
tal Hygiene. She has been ac
tively engaged in that field for
.several years.

Joan Willt. daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Benjamin Wilk. of Detroit,
became the bride of Selig Herbert
Estroff, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam
uel Estroff. of Birmingham, Ala.,
anti Lakeland, Fla., Sept. 4. Dr.
B Benedict Glazer officiated.
Mrs. William M. Harris was her
sister's matron of honor and Mel-
t in B. Estroff was his brother's
best man. Seating the guests were
William M. Harris, Nathan Estroff
and Gerald Colien.
The couple will reside in Lake
land.

Kappa, national honor society.
Mr. Abroms attended Mississippi
State college and received his
B. S. in chemical engineering from
the University of Alabama, being
a member of Sigma Alpha Mu
fraternity. He served as an offi
cer in the U. S. Army Engineers.
Temple Sisterhood
To Meet October 6
The first open meeting of the
Temple Sisterhood for the 1947-
1948 season will take place on
Monday, Oct. 6, preceded by a
luncheon to be served at 12:30.
l uncheon hostesses for the oc-f
casion will be Mrs. A. B. Tenen-
baum, Mrs. E. L. Diamond and
Mrs. A. R. Hoinik. Reservations

The guest speaker will be Dr.
John B. Walthour, new dean of
tiie Cathedral of St. Phillip. Dr.
Walthour, originally from Tampa,
has served for five years as chap
lain of the United States Military
Academy at West Point, and will
have a message of importance and
interest for all.

the luncheon.

Council Notes
A meeting of the Council Kx-
ecutive Cteuunit.tee has been called
for 8 p m. Thursday, Oat. 2, at
the Mayfair Club, with the agen
da for discussion including ap
pointment of new committees,
dates of annual meeting, setting up
a conciliation and arbitration
board and perpetuation 1 of the
American Jewish Conference.
The Delegate Assembly of the
Council will be held at & p. m.
Thursday, Oct. 30, at the May-
fair Club.
At the leadership 30S-JJ3C
meeting held recently in New Farit,

The Shearith Israel Sisterhood
announces the formal opening of
its 1947-48 season with its annual
silver tea at 3 p. m. Wednesday,
Oct. 22, in the synagogue vestrv
rooms.
Alex Miller, president of B nai
B’rith, will be the main speaker,
and Mrs. Estelle Malian Karp,
prominent vocalist, will render
several selections.
Mrs. L. S. Horowitz, president,

as new director of the Jewish Bdu-
cational Alliance.
He succeeds Max H. Tasgal,
who resigned to became director of

rector at the American Red Cross.
Previously he had been a social
worker with Kings Country Hos
pital in Brooklyn and with the De

city. He had also done special wel
fare research on the staff of the
Progressive Education Association
of New York and the Jewish Social
Service Association.
It was also announced that the
JBA Nursery School will be re
organized with a new staff to bring
the program closer to various pop
ulation centers during the coming
fall.

Mr. Goldberg, a native at Rus
