The second annual meeting of
the Atlanta Bureau of Jewish Edu
cation will take the form of a
kosher dinner to be held at the
Ahavath Achim Educational Cen
ter on October 20 at. 7:00 p. m?
Quest speaker will be Dr. Simon
Greenberg. Provost of the Jewish
Theological Seminary of New

by the Atlanta Bureau of Jewish
Education and the Jewish Schools
of At&nta has been announced as
follows:

Friedman. 2. Master of ceremon
ies, Rabbi Jacob M. Rothschild.
3. Graham Jackson and his ac
cordion. including Jewish songs.
6. Introducing the new director of
the Workmen's Circle. Leon Rozen.
7. Drawing for door prize. Louis
SchWartzman. 8 Moving pictures.
9. Benediction. Rabbi Joseph I.
Cohen. 10. Distribution of treats.
Tlie festival, open to young peo
ple from the age of C to 17. will
be held at the Bass High School
on October 5 at 3 .00 p. m. Free
tickets are available at all Jew
ish schools of Atlanta and at the
Jewish Educational Alliance.
Registration is now open for the
Women’s Jewish Institute, a series
f ten sessions on “Contemporary
Jewish Problems’’ and “Modern
Jewish Literature" to be held on
alternate Tuesday mornings at
10:30 a. m. at the Mayfair Club.
This institute is sponsored by the
Atlanta Federation of Jewish
Women's Organizations and is
"WE WANT JOBS”
open to all women of the Jewish
community who may be interested
in enriching their appreciation of
the problems and literature of the
Jewish people. The first meeting
will be held on Octobe 21 when D.
Simon Geenbcrg will present the
first presentation: “Areas of Unity
in Jewish Life.”
Registration will soon be open
for the Institute of Jewish Studies
to be held on alternate Tuesday
evenings beginning October 28 at
8:15 p. m. at the Ahavath Achim
Educational Center. Two subjects
are offered: “Contemporary' Jew
ish Problems.’’ and “Jewish Ex
perience in America." This insti
tute is being sponsored by adult
organizations not included in the
Federation hf Jewish Women.
Faculties for both Institutes will
be announced in the near future.

A new trend for the times—a
search for work is being noted
by the Federation for Jewish Social
Service.
People are beginning to inquire
about “jobs" -with fair frequency.
Many of the calls arc from new
comers but a number come, too,
from old-time residents of Allan-

Marx reviewed how through a

mer, an Atlanta Protestant min
ister when lie first came to Atlan
ta. He told too. of the founding
of the Unity Club, paying special
testimony to the inter-faith lead
ers who had laid the foundations
for the club’s fine program and
shared in the record the group
achieved.
He reviewed too, the holding of
the first Union Thanksgiving Serv
ice in Atlanta at the Temple.

Plan Workshop
Sewing Meetings
Mrs. Paul Baron, as chairman
of Workshop, will conduct the
group’s first meeting Wednesday,
Oct. 8 at the Blue Flame Room of
the Gas Company on Peachtree
Street.
The aim of the Workshop is to
discuss Jewish problems of the day,
particularly in reference to group
tensions. Each program will high
light a cultural and current event
feature. »
At this first meting, co-chair
man, Mrs. Mark Mannheim, will
present a brief resume of Jewish
current events. Co-chairman. Mrs.
Max Kunians-cy. will briefly review
three or four current books of
Jewish interest, including Marie
Serkin s “Blessed is the Match.”
The Sewing group being formed
for the year to sew layettes for
DPs will meet Thursday, Oct. 16
at the A A Educational Center
from 10:30 a. m. to 4 p. m. Chair

BASKETBALL
With the beginning of the new
season so close at hand, the bas
ketball enthusiasts are scheduling
their early practice sessions in the
Alliance gymnasium. It is antici
pated that this year will be a tre
mendous year for basketball ac
tivity, with more teams than ever
seeking practice time and places
in the various leagues. For the
present, practice sessions are be
ing scheduled on a temporary
basis for those desiring to start
early. But these practice times
will be rescheduled when the exact
load is known.

BUENOS AIRES. (JTA) — An
attempt to bomb a synagogue in
the city of Rosario during the Yom

"MIXED CAMPS" IN ITALY
ROME. (JTA> — As a result of
the recent influx of Jewish refu
gees into Italy, the heads of the
Jewish DP Committee met with
Msgr. Andrew Landi, of the Ameri
can National Catholic Welfare
Conference and Spurgeon Keeney,
chief or the IRO mission here, to
discuss the possible establishment
of “mixed camps” of Jewish and
non-Jewish DP’s. The results of
the talks have nqt been made pub
lic.
