REJECT "QUODDY VILLAGE"
WASHINGTON, (JTA)—The
War Assets Administration has
publicly denied the request of of
ficials of Eastport, Maine, that
they be allowed to purchase near
by “Quoddy Village” at a 100 per
cent discount so that the aband
oned project might be converted
into a training center for 25,000
displaced families.

The Beth Jacob Sisterhood an
nounces opening of its coming year
at 3 p. m., Sunday. Oct. 12.
Mrs. R. Gruber, corresponding
secretary, said the meeting will
stress additional membership and
suggested that each member bring
a new member.
The Sisterhood has set an am
bitious program for the season and
old members and prospective new
members are urged to cooperate.

4,000.000 POUNDS
DONATED TO SOS
COLLECTION IN 1947
NEW YORK, (JTA)—More than
4,000,000 pounds of canned foods
and other relief supplies have been
contributed to the SOS Collection
of the J. D. C. during the first
eight months c/f 1947, it was an
nounced here. Of this amount,
more than 3,800,000 pounds have
already been shipped to needy
Jews in '14 European countries.
Shipments during the month of
August totalled 940,000 pounds,
highest in the histor yof the SOS.
