I am glad of this opportun
ity to extend our community
of Atlanta best wishes for a
“Shono Tovo.”
With the approach of 5709
we mark another milestone
in the life and progress of our
community, and we pray that
we may continue to glow in
intelligent cooperation and
fruitful activity in behalf of
Jewish institutions and the
welfare of Israel the world
over. May ours be a renewal
of dedication to brotherhood
and humaneness; to growth
and continuity of Judaism
and its life-giving principles.
The year just concluded,
5708, has been historic in the
annals of Israel and mankind.
Perhaps it is the greatest
year in our chronicles since
the time of the Maccabees

and their saving victories for
survival of people end faith.
We have been privileged to
witness the United Nations
decision of Nov. 29. 1947;
the proclamation of the State
of Israel on May 14, 1948, and
the successful military de
fense of the new State of Is
rael against its many attack
ers. We have thrilled to the
heights of heroism displayed
by the Yishuv of Israel in
their defense of honor and na
tional integrity.
Let us give thanks for what
we have shared in bringing
to pass in our lifetime, fol
lowing the inexpressible
tragedy of Jewry during the
Second World War.
Let us, however, endeavor
to match by our personal
achievements of the spirit—
by our dedication to service
and cooperation and contin
ued good deeds—the triumphs
of our people, Israel, and our
faith. Judaism.
May the year 5709 be a
year of happiness and good
ness to us and to all mankind.
