Pupils Are Studying High Holidays;
Succoth Youth Festival on Oct. 24
The High Holidays are being
featured in the Jewish Schools of
Atlanta during the coming two
weeks. At the afternoon schools of
the Ahavath Achim, Or VeShalom
and Shearith Israel Congregations
an appreciation of the “Mahzor,”
the Prayerbook for the High Holi
days, is the central theme of
classroom instruction, while at the
Workmen’s Circle Shule a similar
approach is being made in Yid
dish.
At the Sunday Religious Schools
of the Ahavath Achim, Hebrew
Benevolent, Or Ve Shalom, and
Shearith Israel Congregations the
customs and ceremonies of the
High Holidays are being studied
so that the solemnity of these
“Days of Awe” can become rele
vant to the personal life of each
student. The blowing of the Sho-
far, the review of one's life for
improvement in the coming year,
the traditional greetings, all form
part of the program of studies for
the coming two weeks.
Because of the lateness of the
High Holidays this season, all of
Atlanta’s Jewish Schools are tak
ing advantage of this greater op
portunity of bringing the message
of the High Holidays to the hearts
of the youth of Atlanta.
Plans are being completed for
the Succoth Youth Festival, spon- j
sored by all the Jewish Schools of j
Atlanta, to take place on Oct. 24
at 10:00 a. m. at the O’Keefe High 1
School, the Festival will form a
regular session of the total Jewish j
Religious School student body.
The program this year will be
outstanding—a puppet show of
the Succoth story, a “Parade of
the Holidays,” participated in by
students of each of the Religious
Schools, moving pictures of Jew
ish content, a special “Dr. Quiz
Contest” involving the Jewish
Holidays, and the distribution of
distinct souvenirs for the occas
ion. Complete details of the Suc
coth Youth Festival will be re
leased soon.
