Birmingham Youth as Chief
Sidney Mazer of Birmingham is
the new president ot Southeastern
Masada.
He was chosen to succeed Israel
Katz of Atlanta at the recent an
nual regional convention.

Workmen’s Circle
Tells Plans for
School Classes
The Workmen’s Circle School
announces registration for its
thirtieth consecutive year.
Officials pointed out the Jewish
events of the past few years and
the renewed emphasis on facets
of Jewish life emphasize the need
for a Jewish education. They said
“the opportunity must be given
Jewish children to understand
their people's ideals, their tradi
tions, their sense of belonging in
the social order, their relation
ship to a Jewish state.”
Subjects to be taught in the
Workmen’s Circle School are:
Yiddish Language — Speaking,
Reading, Writing: Hebrew; Yid
dish Literature: Jewish History;
Jewish Holidays; Jewish Folk-
Songs, Proverbs and Folk-Lore:
Biographies of Jewish Spiritual
L.eaders and Fighters for Free
dom.
Added to the faculty this year
is Mrs. Tobia Yashpa, an exper
ienced teacher. She will be aided
by Miss Feldman in conducting
the Nursery School.

LONDON, Sept. 27. (JTA)-An
exhibition of drawings by Berrich
Fritta depicting the sufferings of
the Jews interned in the There-
■ ienstadt concentration camp
here today at the Jewish “Ben
Uri” art gallery.
Although Fritta perished in the
camp, his drawings were saved by
fellow inmates, who buried them
until the liberation. Czech Am
bassador Dr. Franktisek Kratoch-
vil, who opened the exhibition to
day, paid tribute to the memory
of the 150,000 Jews who were
murdered in Theresienstadt.

NEW YORK, (JTA)—Dr. Alice
Salomon, pioneer German sociol
ogist, known as the “Jane Addams
of Germany,” who was expelled
by the Nazis in 1937, has died
here at the age of 76.
Dr. Salomon, who came from a
Jewish family which had resided
in Germany for over 200 years,
was a founder and director of the
German School of Social Work,
founder and president of the In
ternational Committee for Schools
of Social Work and a vice-presi
dent for 13 years of the Interna
tional Council for Women She
became an American citizen in
1944.
