of soldier shows and radio pro
grams for the armed forces.
In making the award, Billboard
said: ‘a . . despite use of records,
the show has considerable pro
duction, and attempts to do some
thing of a public service job be
sides entertaining.” The amuse
ment weekly in describing the
program said that this hour-long
Sunday afternoon show combines
records of leading musical artists
and singing doing traditional
modern and Jewish numbers with
special production effects. It in
cludes news of The Scene Toda>,
done in March of Time fash
ion, concerned mostly with
Palestine, but including consider
able local news of community or
ganizations. A dramatic segment
honors people who have served
humanity in some way, under the
general title, ‘‘A Tribute to Great
ness.” Important figures from the
national or International Jewish
community frequently appear on
the show for guest interviews.
This award is considered a sig
nal honor because it is unusual
for such recognition to be given
to a minority show purely on en
tertainment merit while still per
forming a public service.
