Cantor Kusevitsky
To Give Concert
In Atlanta Feb. 16
Holders of Cultural Series sea
son tickets will have their third
treat Wednesday—Miihai Kuse
vitsky, one of the greatest living
tenors of the age.
He will be presented in concert
at 8:30 p. nr»., Feb. 16 at the Pro
gressive Club.
Kusevitsky, former chief cantor
of Poland and lead tenor in Euro
pean opera, has, in the two years
of his residence in the U. S., es
tablished himseif among the mus
ical greats of the country, his con
certs being attended by overflow
crowds and eliciting rave notice
from the music critics of America.
| The famous cantor has appear
ed in recital in London, Paris,
Brussels, Antwerp, Vienna and
Budapest. When the Nazi hola-
caust hit Warsaw, Kusevitsky was
arrested by the Gestapo and at
first was reported dead. Fortun
ately, he was rescued from the
dreaded Tremblinka prison by the
Polish underground.
Kusevitsky is singing a well
rounded program including He
brew liturgical music, operatic
arias, Hebrew and Yiddish folk
songs, and Russian art songs.

priority to their new project
layette and infant’s wear.
Members and friends have been
invited to the home of Mrs. Kal
man Fink, 1743 Johnson Road, N.
E., where Mrs. Louis Maziar will
entertain at a tea. Cost of admis
sion will be a layette item which
will be sent to children of the new
state of Israel. Diapers, crib-
sheets, towels, etc.—all are desir
ed.
Mrs. Ben Brody will present a
‘Chronological History of the Jew
in Music” accompanied by Mrs.
Morris Arnovitz, pianist, and Mrs.
Herbert Karp, soprano.

The following program will be
presented: Mrs. Gertrude Harris,
President of Georgia Federation
of Women’s Clubs, will speak on
Brotherhood. Louis Shwartzman,
Director of Jewish Edusation, will
also speak on Brotherhood and
Basic Judaism. The Kindling of
the Sabbath Lights will be pre
sented by Mrs. Morris Manheim,
Jr., and Jaqueline Cohen. Miss
Marjorie McLachlan, Director of
Conference of Christians and
Jews, will deliver the Closing
Prayer.
A social hour will follow.

annex Feb. 6 with a panel discus
sion on “The Ne.w Government of
Israel.”
Max Gleiberman, above, accom
plished Yiddish recitationist, will
appear on the annual concert of
Atlanta’s Arbeiter Ring Shule at
8:30 p. m. Sunday, Feb. 13, at the
J. E. A.
Mr. Gleiberman is a prominent
teacher of Yiddish. He will speak
about Yiddish culture and educa
tion. He is also known for his in
terpretations of the works of Pe
retz, Lesin, Sholom Aleichem and
others. He will give readings of
their work on the program.
His companion performer is
Miss Brocha Skulnik, nationally
known soprano. She will sing a
group of folk ballads in Yiddish,
Hebrew, Russian and English.
Admission is $1.00 a person, in
cluding tax. The Arbeiter Ring
Shule will benefit from the per
formance.
