Gate City Lodge Panel Topic Monday j
To Be “Compulsory Health Insurance”
“Should we hajve compulsory health insurance in America?”
This controversial subject will be considered in a panel discussion
before members of Gate City Lodge of B’nai B rith at 8:15 p. m. Mon
day. May 9. at the Progressive Club.
Coming from Washington to participate in the discussion will be
Chat Paterson, executive director of the Committee for the Nation’s
Health, the group which is promoting legislation for compulsory
health insurance. Mr. Paterson, a graduate of Antioch College, was
formerly in the State Department where he worked closely with Nel
son Rockerfeller. In the O. S. S., he unearthed documents which
helped to convict and hang Alfred Rosenberg. Nazi philosopher of
hate. He was national commander last year of the American Veterans
Committee.
Arguing against the proposed measure will be Dr. Christopher .1.
McCoughlin of Atlanta, a member of the Fulton County Medical So
ciety and of numerous professional medical organizations.

Sidney Jaffe of Charleston re

Atlantan Wins
Award at Emory
Joseph Airov of Atlanta has
been awarded the Alpha Kappa
Psi Scholarship at Emory Univer
sity.
Mr. Airov, who received his de
gree in March, won the recognition

Miss Kaplan is a honor grad
uate of Wrightsville High School.
She attended the University of
Alabama where she was a mem
ber of Sigma Delta Tau, social
sorority. During her senior year
she was treasurer of Hillel Foun
dation, sorority sports representa
tive, and in many other intercol
legiate activities. The bride-elect
is now connected with Rich’s, Inc.
The future bridegroom is a
graduate of Lanier High School in
Macon. He was in the Armed
Forces four years and served two
and a half years in the European

The wedding will take place
June 22, taking place at the Pro
gressive Club. The ceremony will
be performed at six o’clock by
Rabbi Harry H. Epstein.
The bride-elect will be given
in marriage by her father. Irvin
Karesh will be his brother’s best
man.
Miss Shirley Kaplan will be her
sister’s maid of honor. Mrs. Jean
Belson, oldest sister of the bride
groom-elect, will be matron of
honor. Misses Arlene Belson, De
lores Belson and Sondra Karesh,
nieces of the bridegroom-elect,
Misses Shirley Wisebram and
Paula Zerman of Atlanta will be
the bridemaids. Miss Dianne
Karesh and Mr. Harvey Lee Bel
son, niece and nephew of the
bridegroom-elect, will be flower
girl and train-bearer.
Usher-groomsmen will be David
I. Kaplan, Eli Kaplan, Abe Kap
lan of Atlanta, brothers of the
bride-elect; Mose Karesh and San
ford Karesh of Augusta, brother
and nephew of the bridegroom,
and Sol Avurnin of Macon.
After a wedding trip out West,
the couple will reside in Atlanta.

considered in a panel discussion at
8:15 p. m. at the Temple House.
