Atlanta Jewish Welfare Fund Shearith Israel Sisterhood to Hold
Passes $633,000 Mark Annual Donor Luncheon on May 31

Fund Effort.
Those who said that it was im
possible to raise more money in
1949 than in 194ft didn’t know the
women of Atlanta.
Led by Mrs. I. M. Weinstein, the
Women’s division of the Atlanta
Jewish Welfare Fund mobilized
for an all-out effort. The Advance
Gifts, Special Gifts, Business and
Professional and General Solicita
tion functions were gratifying to
the General Chairman of the Wo
men’s division. The total reported
as a result of these functions is
$80,000.
Solicitation is under way and
report meetings have been set up.
Every card will be covered.
Credit for this magnificent ef
fort is shared by the Chairmen of
the various divisions: Advance
Gifts—Mrs. Frank Garson, Mrs.
Herman Heyman, Mrs. S. J. Stein-
bach; Special Gifts—Mrs. Nathan
Blass and Mrs. Abner Lichten
stein; Business and Professional
Group—Miss Mildred Kingloff
and Miss Lillian Reisman; General
Solicitation—Mrs. J. Abelson and
Mrs. Morton Weis.

announced that the drive had
passed the $633,000 mark on its
way toward the goal of $1,150,000.
Success of the drive is now in
the hands of the campaign worker.
He is the Mr. Big in the campaign.
The success of the drive will re
flect his sincerity and effort.
A group of 204 men are actively
soliciting contributions in the T.
& I. Division of the campaign.
1,100 cards are in their hands. May
31 is their deadline.
Two report meetings were held
by the MeiVs division during the
week of May 22.
The Shearith Israel Sisterhood
will culminate its season with its
annual donor luncheon Tuesday,
May 31, at 12:30 p. m. in the ves
try rooms of the Synagogue, which
has been newly decorated for the
occasion. This is a major fund
raising project of the Sisterhood.
Proceeds go wholly towards sup
port of the Religious and Sunday
Schools.
Highlight of the program will
be a humorous skit to be present
ed by all the chairmen and offi
cers who have worked actively.

Morton Weiss, Chairman of the

ion, is this week’s choice as the
outstanding worker in the T & I
Division of the Atlanta Jewish
Welfare Fund 1949 Exodus Cam
paign for $1,150,000. . . .
Mr. Weiss organized his indus
try from A to Z. He enlisted a
group of sincere capable workers.
He kept in constant contact with
his workers to insure rapid solici
tation. He arranged solicitation
meetings at the larger firms to
cover their employee solicitation.
In short, he did the perfect job.
Honorable mention this week
goes to a quintet of active workers
in the T & I General solicitation
group: P. S. Clein, A. E. "Al" Milt,
Clement Molkner, Joseph Abra
ham and Maurice Pepper. These
men have done a complete and
conscientious job with a large
number of cards. Footwork ana
more footwork has been the an
swer to their success.

Public Invited to Federation
Meeting May 30 at Mayfair
The 44th annual meeting of the
Atlanta Federation for Jewish
Social Service will be held at 8:15
p. m. Monday, May 30, at the May-
fair Club, Barney Medintz, Fed
eration president, has announced.
The Federation, Atlanta’s major
Jewish social service organization,
has as constituent agencies the
Montefiore Family Service Bu
reau, the Morris Hirsch 'Clinic, and
the Jewish Educational Alliance.
Meyer Balser, chairman of the
Board of the Jewish Educational
Alliance, will describe the pro
gress made in the development of
a new community Center.
Mrs. I. F. Sterne will report on
Atlanta’s service to its families
and especially the work of the
Family Service Bureau in adjust
ment of refugee newscomers to
the city.
Doctors Irving Goldstein and
Nathan Blass will give an account
of the activities of the Morris
Hirsch Clinic.
Robert K. Taylor, executive di
rector of the Metropolitan Atlanta
Community Planning Council, will
discuss community planning for
social services and the role private
philanthropy plays in the overall
picture.
