Sheanrith Israel to Confirm, Graduate
22 Boys and Girls at May 29 Ceremonies
Shearith Israel Congregation
will hold Confirmation and Bible
School Graduation ceremonies at
8 p. m. Sunday, May 29, at the
Synagogue.
“The State of Israel—Present,
Past and Future” will be the
theme of the exercises.
Rabbi Tobias Geffen will pre
sent an address to the parents and
Rabbi Hyman R. Friedman will
deliver the graduation sermon
and charge to the confirmands.
Sidney Rich, instructor, will pre
sent the Meyer L. Balser loving
cup to the best all-around member
of the Confirmation Class and Sol
Tenenbaum, Instructor of the
Bible Class, will present the Syn
agogue’s award to the best student
of the Bible Class. The Meyer
Goncher Memorial award will be
presented to the student with the
highest attendance record. Con
firmation Certificates and white
leatherette Bibles will be given to
the Confirmands and beautifully
engraved diplomas will b<? given
to the graduates by the Sisterhood,
sponsors of the school. Mrs. Julius
Gordon will represent the Sister
hood and Louis S. Horowitz, will
represent the Congregation.
Miss Rose Stern, accompaniest
of the school, is in charge of the
musical portion of the program
which will be one of the high
lights of the evening. The classes
will sing: “Hodo A1 Eretz,” “Is
rael, My Israel”, and “Hail and
Farewell”.

NEW OFFICERS: IRVING LIBOWSKY (center) wasrecently chosen commander of Atlanta Post 112, JWV,
third largest post in the country. Also shown above are Bernard Berger, (right), senior vice commander,
and Morris Arnovitz, junior vice commander. Elected to complete the roster of officers are Marvin Shoob,
Judge advocate, and Dr. Irving L. Greenberg, surgeon. The new commander, a native Atlantan, served
in the IJ. S. Navy for 23 months during World War II. He holds a law degree from St. Lawrence Univer
sity and is vice president of the Atlanta Zionist Dis trict. In addition he is a Mason.
Public Rites Sunday to Mairk
Graves of Jewish Vets at Greenwood
A dozen graves of Jewish war
veterans will be decorated with
special bronze markers of the
Jewish War Veterans Post 112 on
Sunday.
Friends, members of the families
of the departed soldiers and the
public have been invited by Com
mander Irving Libowsky to be
present for the ceremonies at 11:15
a. m. May 29, in Greenwood Ceme
tery.
The ceremonies Sunday are part
of the overall grave-marking pro
gram being conducted by the
JWVets, Commander Libowsky
said. Later, he added, graves in
Oakland Cemetery and other areas
will be marked, including soldiers
who were veterans of the War
Between the States and the Span-
ish-American War.
A Shavuot Festival was cele
brated last year in Farmingdale.
