Softballers Get
League Going
As scheduled, the two Boy’s
j Softball Leagues conducted by the
j Jewish Educational Alliance be
gan last Sunday morning at Pied-
! mont Park.
In one of the “B” League games,
the 518 team had some excellent
pitching from Hugh Klotz and
downed 134 by the score of 8 to 4.
Hugh had a “no-hitter” going
until the fifth inning and ended :
up allowing a total of only five
hits. In the other game, an out
standing upset was accomplished '
when a hustling JAC team defeat
ed JAO for the first time in league j
history in a closely played game, j
Score was 7 to 5. Ted Schlossman '
pitched five hit ball for the win- ,
ners and was given splendid sup- i
port. JAC is coached by Martin !
Richman but was given some tre- j
mendous moral by Mr. Abe Lewis, j
In the “A” League, a strong 518 !
team scuttled the TEP’S 14 to 3.
Rittenbaum was the winning
pitcher and Edelstein the losing
twirler. In the other game, 134
downed SOZ 9 to 4. David France
received credit for the victory and
Gilner was the loser. Home runs
were hit by Simmons, Diamond
and Merlin.
Four more games are scheduled
for this Sunday, June 12. The pub
lic is invited.
Joshua Stampfer
Receives Degree
F*om Seminary
J<>shua Stampfer, formerly of
Columbus, is to receive a degree
from the Jewish Theological Sem
inary of America.
He will be awarded the degree
of H.H.L. and the title of Rabbi.
His wife, Goldie Goncher
Stampfer, formerly of Atlanta,
will receive a diploma from the
Seminary of Jewish Studies.
Rabbi Stampfer will occupy the
pulpit of Congregation Tifereth
Israel in Lincoln, Neb. He is the
son of Rabbi E. D. Stampfer of
Memphis, formerly of Columbus.
Mrs. Ida Goncher of Atlanta is
in New York City for the gradu
ation.

School at an all day picnic on the
grounds and in the pools of the
Progressive Club Monday June 6.

Education Alliance worked to
gether with Rabbi Joseph Cohen
and Rabbi Hyiman R. Friedman
and Louis Schwartz of the Bureau
of Jewish Education in arranging
program of contests between the
schools.
