Herzog Demands Israel Law
Revision According to Torah
JERUSALEM, (JTA)—A com
plete revision of Israel's laws and
a remodelling of the Jewish state’s
judicial legislation on the basis of
the laws of the Torah were de
manded by Chief Rabbi Dr. Isaac
Halevi Herog in an address before
the 8th world Mizrachi conference I
here recently.
Rabbi Herzog also demanded
expanded jurisdical powers for
the recently-established “Rabbin
ical High Court” as well as a
change in “those Supreme Court
judges who do not have extensive
Jewish juridical education and
knowledge.”
Dr. Herzog called on the Gov
ernment of Israel to grant the
status of state courts to existing
rabbinical tribunals and attacked
the government for adhering to
“Gentile jurisdiction which is ut
terly un-Jewish.”
Earlier, the delegates took a
solemn pledge to secure Jerusa
lem as the capitol of the state of
Israel. The parley also voted to
try to reestablish the ancient San- i
hedrin.
(The Sanhedrin, whose func
tions and procedures are outlined
in the tractate “Sanhedrin” in the
Talmud, was both a legislative and
judicial body made up of 171
members which interpreted Jew
ish law and promulgated decrees
for Jewish religious observance.)

Now I*».i Going Back
To High School!
When I saw lights burning in the
High School auditorium last night.
1 looked in to see what went on.
About twenty people were listen
ing to Buzz Ellis, the electrician,
talk about television.
I slipped into a buck seat and
asked Hap Thomas what was up.
Hap told me it was the new Self-
Improvement Club. I stayed to lis
ten—and learned a lot. Bun really
knows his stuff.
Turns out this club meets every
Friday night. Each member give*
a talk on the subject he knows moat
about. I joined on the spot because
learning new things is one of my
favorite hobbies.
From where I sit. it’s willingness
to learn from the other person that
makes Americans tolerant towards
so many different viewpoints and
tastes in things. Just because Buzz
Ellis goes for chocolate malteds.
while 1 prefer a mellow glass of
beer, doesn't mean I’m right and
he’s wrong. Incidentally, next week
Fm going to talk on how to run a
newspaper.
