MEYER HARRIS
Meyer Harris, 69, died Aug. 22
at Columbia where he lived.
Funeral services were held at
Adath Jeshuron synagogue in
Aiken Aug. 23 with Rabbi David
Karesh officiating. Burial was in
: Sons of Israel cemetery.
Mr. Harris was born in London,
England, and came to the United
j States at the age of six.
For a number of years he made
| his home in Aiken where he was
connected with the mercantile
business. Since 1941 he had made
his home in Columbia.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs.
Rebecca Surasky Harris, four
daughters, Mrs. Frank Harris of
New York City, Mrs. Robert
Samet, Lumberton, N. C., Mrs.
Leon Strulson, of Scarsdale, N. Y.,
and Miss Tillie Harris, of Colum
bia, S. C.; two brothers, Abe Har
ris and Bert Harris of St. Louis,
Mo.; four grandchildren, one niece
and two nephews.

Mrs. Rosa Rosenberg of Atlanta
died Monday, Aug. 29. Rabbi
Harry H. Epstein and Cantor
Joseph Schwartzman conducted
the funeral at the chapel of Green
berg & Flinn Aug. 30. Interment
was in Greenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Rosenberg was the widow
of Jacob Rosenberg. She is sur
vived by two daughters, Mrs.
Henry Pasner, of Atlanta, and
Mrs. A. S. Goodman, of Colum
bus; a son, Harold Rosenberg, of
Atlanta; a sister, Mrs. Mary Abel-
man, and three brothers, Charles
and Louis Mendel, all of Atlanta,
and Max Mendel, of Columbus;
three grandchildren.
MRS. ANNA FRANZBLAU
Mrs. Anna Schwartz Franzblau;
78, of Aiken, S. C., died at the
University hospital, Augusta, Ga.,
Saturday, Aug. 27.
Funeral services were held at
the Adath Jeshurun synagogue,
Aiken, Tuesday, Aug. 30. The
Rabbi Isadore Franblau of Bristol,
Tenn., officiated. Interment was
in the Sons of Israel Cemetery, at
Aiken.
Mrs. Franblau is survived by
her husband, Harris Franbleu,
Aiken; 3 daughters, Mrs. Nathan
Franblau, Aiken, Dr. Lillian Lip-
ton, New York, N. Y. Mrs. Irving
R. Green, Oak Park, Ill.; 2 sons,
Abraham Franzblau, Hyattsville,
Md., Dr. Sanford Franzblau, Chi
cago, Ill.; one sister, Mrs. Leon
Reich, New York, N. Y.; one
brother, Louis Schwartz, New
York, N. Y.

J. B. Joel, 73, of Athens, died
Aug. 24.
Funeral services were held on
Friday, Aug. 26 in Athens. Rabbi
David Marx, of Atlanta, and Dr.
E. L. Hill, pastor of the First
Presbyterian Church of Athens,
officiated.
Mr. Joel was influential in the
business life of Athens and had
extensive holdings there and in
other parts of the State. He also
had theatrical interests in other
parts of the country. He was
Southern Representative for j
Loew’s, Inc., for many years be
fore he retired.
Born in Milledgeville, Mr. Joel
had made his home in Athens
since his marriage on Jan. 11, 1900
to Miss Esther Marks, of Athens.
He was known for his cultural and
philanthropic interests.
In addition to his widow, Mr.
Joel is survived by two sisters,
Mrs. B. L. Goldsmith and Mrs.
Bruno Dukofzer, of Atlanta; two
nieces, Mrs. Charles Hyman, of
Rome, and Mrs. Herman Hyman,
of Atlanta, and two nephews,
Lyons Joel, II, of Atlanta, and
Ben Joel, of New York.
Mrs. Sadie Smith Isenberg, 65,
wife of Sol Isenberg of Gordon,
: Ga., died Aug. 15. Funeral ser-
! vices were conducted Aug. 16 in
Augusta. Interment was in Mag
nolia Cemetery.
Mrs. Isenberg is survived by
! her husband; two sons, Joe Isen
berg of Brunswick and Jake Isen
berg of Gordon; three daughters,
| Mrs. Abe Fogle of Augusta, Mrs.
Willie Smith of Greensboro and
Mrs. Abe Smith of Spartanburg;
four sisters, Mrs. Belda Swartz of
Mobile, Mrs. Miriam Pollock of
Spartanburg, Mrs. Sophie Cohen
of Atlanta and Mrs. Hannah Levy
of Atlanta.
