“A”LEAGUE
Both 518 and 134 went right
down to the wire before the win
ner of the Boys’ A league was de
termined. 134 got off to a fast
start beating 518 by the score of
10-7 in the first game which was
called after 4V4 innings because of
rain. Dave Franco was the win
ning hurler; Gene Steinberg, the
loser. Richard Heiman hit a home-
run for the winners.
In the second game, played on
Thursday evening, Sept. 1st, 134
fell apart and 518 literally walked
all over them to the tune of 18-2.
Jerry Rittenbaum was outstand
ing in doling out 2 meager hits.
Dave Franco was the losing pitch
er. Harold Meltzer pitched the
last two innings for 134.
In the third and decisive game
of this play-off, 518 came from
behind in the seventh inning to
j score 3 runs and nose out 134 by
\ the score of 7-4. The winning bat
tery was Jerry Rittenbaum.
“B”LEAGUE
The play-off of this league re
quired only two games and found
JAO winning both games de
cisively, thereby making it un
necessary for a third affair. The
scores were 9-5 in the first game
and 13-5 in the second affair.
The scores were 9-5 in the first
game and 13-5 in the second af
fair. Billy Frankel received credit
for both victories, allowing only 5
hits in each game. Hugh Klotz was
charged with the double defeat.
In the first game, Bobby Paller
hit a long homerun and Buddy
Rubinson also contributed 3 im
portant hits.
GIRLS’ LEAGUE
Last, but not least, the Girls’
softball league was concluded
\ Sunday morning, Sept. 4, when
DOZ and TNL met to determine
the championship. It was a nip
three innings, with Phyllis Ger-
shon and Florence Cohen match
ing each other on the mound.
However, Florence weakened in
the fourth inning, and with some
timely errors occurring, DOZ
“opened the door" and before the
landslide had subsided, they had
managed to pour 21 runs across
the plate in the big inning. Each
player on DOZ came to bat three
times during that inning and the
final score was 26-8, in favor of
DOZ.
Once again, here are the win
ners of the repsective leagues:
