Convention for Hatelers
by MILTON FRIEDMAN
(Copyright, 1949, J.l'.A., Inc.)
Anti-Jewish elements from all
parts of the country will arrive in
St. Louis, Mo., on September 27
to 30 for a convention of the Chris
tian Nationalist Crusade.
Meanwhile, the Crusade’s direc
tor, Gerald L. K. Smith, has taken
to slandering the dead. The late
Rabbi Stephen S. Wise is very
crudely maligned in an editorial,
by Smith in the current issue of his
hate sheet, “The Cross and Flag”.
The editorial, however, inadver
tently pays tribute to the effective
ness of Jewish organizations.
Entitled, “The Ruthless Ghost of
Rabbi Wise”, the editorial accuses
the late leader of attempting to
“steal” from G. A. Richards, owner
of radio stations, who faces charges
before the Federal Communica
tions Commission of ordering anti-
Semitism injected in radio news
casts.
“G. A. Richards,” Smith wrote,
“is the name of a great American.
In the eyes of the Jews, Mr. Rich
ards committed the unpardonable
sin. He allowed his radio station
to be used as an outlet to a network
of 60 stations when Rev. Charles
E. Coughlin exposed the Jew and
cited the proper authority concern
ing their international conspiring
activities.
“The Jews did not rest until they
had played politics in Rome, Wash
ington, Detroit, and elsewhere in
such a way as to silence Rev.
Coughlin. Some months ago Rabbi
Stephen Wise, now deceased,
started a campaign to steal from
Mr. Richards the investment of
millions of dollars which he had
made in these powerful stations.
I say steal advisedly because the
campaign was to cancel Richard’s
permit to operate radio stations. To
cancel a permit is to destroy the in
vestment and make the wave
length available to someone else.
“Such Gestapo organizations and
extremist groups as the American
Jewish Congress, headed by Rabbi
Wise, the Anti-Defamation League,
which is the Gestapo of the B’nai
B’rith, the Jewish Labor Committee
which specializes in meddling in
such matters and the Jewish War
Veterans who frequently carry on
terrorist and storm troop activities
together with numerous other Jew
ish organizations such as the Com
munity Relations Committee of Los
Angeles, the Jewish Community
Council of Detroit and the Jewish
Community Council of Cleveland
— these groups are spending thou
sands of dollars and carrying in
tense campaigns to deny free
speech and free air to Mr. Richards
and his organization. It is to be
hoped that common sense will pre
vail and that someone along the
line will have enough moral cour
age to protect the Richards organi
zation against the conscienceless
bigotry of these Jews.”
The recent decision of the FCC to
call Richards to full account has
been hailed by Will Maslow, gen
eral counsel of the American Jewish
Congress, as significant in preserv
ing our democratic way of life from
“the poison of hatred deliberately
spread by those who abuse the
privilege of being licensed to utilize
mass media of communication like
the radio.”
Smith is still castigating the late
President Roosevelt. He blames
the late President for the collapse
of China, accusing Roosevelt of
"treason” in favor of Russia. Frank
lin D. Roosevelt, Jr., is succeeding
President Roosevelt as a target of
Smith’s wrath. In an article en
titled, “Plenty of Jew Money for
Junior”, Smith alleges that the
new Congressman is a puppet of'
Jews who hope to make him Presi
dent in 1952.
Reviewing the establishment of
Israel, Smith observes that “most
of the Zionists are not even Jews.
They represent a herd of semi-
Oriental savages that adopted Ju
daism as their official religion in
the middle centuries and out of
this gang has been produced most
of the Russian Jews and most of
the Polish Jews.”
A review of the movie, “Home
of the Brave”, published by Smith,
accuses the "Jew overlords of
Hollywood” of stirring up ill-will
between whites and the Negroes.
It is also alleged that the Jews are
trying “to line up the Negroes as
an insulation between the awak
ened white man and plotting Jew."
Smith says he is now selling the
Anti-Defamation League’s book,
“How Secure These Right s?”,
which exposes him, for $3.00 a
copy. He writes that the “Jewish
Gestapo will be surprised”, but he
wants the world to see “the des
perate and Satanic attempt of these
Jews to destroy Christian Ameri
cans.”
These thoughts and similar ideas
will no doubt, be expounded late
this month in the Municipal Audi
torium in St. Louis. It is also re
vealed that “through the cooper
ation of a generous Nationalist” an
other meeting place has been made
available at 1533 S. Grand Ave.
“with the understanding that it be
used strictly as Nationalist Head
quarters.”
