Study, Lecture and Singing Combine in New
Adult Institute Season Opening Nov. 22
Participants Should Register Now
To Aid Class Arrangements
New plans for the Atlanta Adult
Institute, which opens at 8 p. m.
Tuesday, Nov. 22, at the Commun
ity Center, have been announced
by Chairman Charles Bergman of
the Bureau of Jewish Education.
The Bureau and the Community
' Center are sponsoring the series
in cooperation with local synago
gues and other organizations.
The Institute, to be held every
Tuesday, will have a triple pro
gram, including a choice of five
classes, a lecture and a commun
ity sing.
First period will be the classes
from 8 to 9. There will be a choice
of one of the following courses:
1. Elementary Hebrew

Ben Herman, 53, of Augusta,
died Nov. 2. The funeral was con
ducted by Rabbi Rosenberg Nov.
4. Interment was in Magnolia
Cemetery.
A native of Poland and local
salesman, Mr. Herman had lived
in Aughsta for 41 years. He had
been ill for some time.
He is survived by one brother
who resided in New York City.

Emphasis will be placed on con
versation and improved Hebrew
reading.
4. The Prophets
A study of the major and minor
prophets; their background and
impact on Jewish thought and
life.
5. Jewish History Highlights
Emphasis will be placed upon
those factors and movements
which will lead to a better under
standing of Jewish life.
The hour class will be followed
by a lecture series with outstand
ing members of the community
discussing subjects of current in
terest. Purpose of the lecture
series will be to impart an under
standing of some of the forces
which are shaping the American
Jewish community.
A Song Festival Period, from 10
to 10:30 p. m. will follow.

seven percent of children ques
tioned in a three-year survey in
Philadelphia recently showed bias
toward Jews, 53 percent were
either neutral or evasive while ten
percent were non-committal, the
current issue of the Woman’s
Home Companion reports.
