Mr. Slomovitz paid the follow
ing tribute to Dr. Brin:
“We mourn Dr. Brin’s passing.
His death is a loss to the English-
Jewish press and to Jewish lead
ership.
“Joseph Brin was a keen ob
server. He was an able speaker,
a good humorist, and authority
on journalism and semantics. He
was one of the country’s finest
conversationalists and story tel
lers.
“As one of the organizers of
the American Association of
English-Jewish Newspapers. Dr.
Brin was honored with election
as first president of the Asso
ciation. He was an important
figure at most of our meetings—
both of the executive committee
as well as of the Association’s
conventions. His addresses were
guides to action towards the ad
vancement of the English-Jewish
press.
"We are saddened by his pas
sing. Our sympathies go to his
survivors who, we are certain,
will gather much strength from
the knowledge that he left an
important heritage in his news
paper and the good things he
created in his lifetime.”

Failure to Find
Yiddish Linotype
Man Kills Paper
NEW YORK CITY (AJP)—A
strange new twist in the decline
of the world’s once-powerful
Yiddish press was unfolded here
this week with the suspension of
a Yiddish weekly in faraway
Chile.
Where most lingering illnesses
leading to the death of Yiddish
papers in the past decade have
been diagnosed as a severe case
of dwindling circulation, the
Chile paper folded because it
couldn’t find a Yiddish linotype
operator.
“Dos Yiddishe Wort” ran into
trouble when its single Yiddish
linotype operator retired. Paid
ads inserted in other South
American Yiddish papers coupled
with frantic pleas for an opera
tor capable of setting type in
Yiddish failed to produce a sin
gle reply, “Contact,” a weekly
newslatter, reporter.
The paper folded.

Dear Fellow Citizens:
Before you vote for a person you want to know as much as possible
about him. Because 1 I am earnestly asking you to vote for me, I want to
give you as many facts as possible.
I am a native Georgian, a graduate of Emory University, and a prac
ticing attorney. I have never sought public office before, and my reason
for doing so now is that I believe we need some new faces, new ideas,
new' methods in our national government. The corruption and ineffi
ciency in Washington—these must go and with these must go the men
of little vision and narrow minds w’ho made this possible. I am for
economy in government, but I don’t believe we can get economy in gov
ernment merely by talking about it.
I know’ that you, the people in this district, including myself, des
perately want low'er taxes and full value for the tax dollar spent. When
you elect me your Congressman, I shall w’ork for constructive
economy by putting business methods into operation of govern
ment. This will cut taxes drastically. There is no more reason to
suppose that a government can exist under deficit spending than
there is to imagine that business could exist under this operation.
I expect to make a vigorous race, and firmly believe that w’ith
your help, I will be elected. I need the help of you, your friends
and families, and I will be most grateful to you.
Sincerely,
BAXTER JONES
